have been running Regent Thai for more than 10 years. However, their journey started a decade earlier, when Te’s brother-in-law saw an opportunity to bring Thai cuisine to the people of Adelaide, opening a restaurant in the Regent Arcade. When he retired, it was passed on to Sanom and Te, and they were tasked with continuing the tradition of tasty Thai food. The menu places an emphasis on seafood – a reflection of the high quality produce that’s available to the kitchen team. Prawn choo chee, a tantalising combination of prawns, red curry paste, coconut milk, lime leaves, chilli and basil, sits above ginger fish, which includes a deep-fried whole barramundi topped with ginger, mushroom, spring onion and shallot. Vegetarians are also well catered for, with a comprehensive veggie-only menu that includes pad thai, spring rolls and tom yum soup. No matter what you’re ordering, Te, as the man on the floor, is always happy to adjust seasonings as required, so both spice savants and mild mavens will be sated. The drinks list is just as detailed as the food menu, with a range of spirits, beers, ciders and wines on offer. South Australian wineries are front and centre; drops come from as far as the Clare Valley, as close as the Adelaide Hills and everything in between.
