Dovetail on Overend, our first cafe, launched in 2014, and has become well known in our community for our service, quality, and providing a safe space for coeliacs to dine. Our second location Dovetail Social, Highgate Hill, launched in January 2021. Both locations feature our flavour-focussed food menu, amazing black or milk-based coffees, our famous fresh chai, and our freshly baked gluten free

donuts and desserts (baked onsite daily)

Our space:
• Located just a few minutes from Brisbane CBD
• Tranquil suburban setting, ample stress-free parking
• Breezy alfresco dining
• Bookings and walk-in diners are welcome

Our service philosophy:
• Our team is super friendly and attentive
• We're efficient, but never at the expense of quality

Food Menu:
• Customer favourites include our Baked Eggs #7 - featuring our famous house Chilli Con Carne, Breakkie Pizza (covered with Maple Bacon), our Adobo Bowl (based on Filipino's super tasty national dish), vegan-friendly Breakkie Rice Buddha Bowl, and of course our legendary Reuben, the classic!
• Every dish on our menu can be prepared Gluten Free in a dedicated kitchen space - so when we say it's Gluten Free, we really mean it is 100% Coeliac-Friendly.
• We never charge extra for Gluten Free, EVER!! Dessert Menu:
• Our famous donuts are baked fresh daily
• We only bake gluten free desserts in our oven (zero risk of gluten cross-contamination), but if we didn't tell you they are gluten free you would never guess it
• Customer favourites include our Yamington (Purple Yam Lamington), Lemon Blueberry or Passionfruit Raspberry donuts; chocolate marshmallow mini cakes; and our amazing Christmas Ginger Bread Houses
• We also bake a much larger range of bespoke cakes and desserts (eg our gluten free Sticky Pecan Scrolls), and Gluten Free High Tea in our new space Dovetail Social, Highgate Hill - these can all be ordered easily from our website dovetailsocial.com.au

As the mornings get cooler, there's something so comforting about sitting down to a meal that warms you from the inside out.

Our Baked Eggs #7 is a winter favourite for a reason - it's hearty, bubbling, full of flavour, and perfect with warm toast for that last delicious spoonful.

If you're after something a little more adventurous, our Signature Adobo Bowl brings together bold Filipino-inspired flavours with adobo chicken and pork, mushroom sisig, laing, a devilled egg with chorizo crumbs - all on a bed of fluffy white rice. It's the kind of meal that leaves you full, satisfied and already thinking about the next visit.

And of course, no cosy catch-up is complete without a beautifully brewed cup of Coffee (or our famous Macadamia Brewed Chai if you're not a coffee person - it's phenomenal). We certainly love our coffee though, and we've always believed that great coffee has a way of bringing people together, especially on a chilly Brisbane morning.

And as always, our entire menu is available Gluten Free and safe for your Coeliac family members and friends - you're in good hands here 💜

"Can I eat here?"

For most people, that's a simple question.

For a Coeliac, it can be exhausting!

My name is Adam, and I've been Coeliac for many years.

I've lost count of how many times I've stood in front of a display cabinet full of beautiful pastries, cakes and food, only to realise there was nothing I could safely eat.

Or the times I've been told something was "gluten free" only to discover later that it wasn't truly Coeliac-safe.

It's one of the reasons my wife Rejoice and I opened Dovetail on Overend in Norman Park back in 2014, and then our second location Dovetail Social in Highgate Hill.

We didn't want to create a café with a few gluten-free options.

We wanted to create the café we wished existed for us.

A place where a Coeliac can enjoy breakfast, lunch, coffee, donuts and desserts without feeling like the difficult person at the table.

A place where families don't have to split up because one person needs to eat somewhere else.

A place where grandparents can bring their Coeliac grandchild and simply say, "Order whatever you'd like."

That's still what drives us today.

Every dessert we make is gluten free.

Every member of our team understands cross-contamination.

Every day we meet people who tell us they had no idea a café like this existed in Brisbane.

If that's you, we'd love to welcome you.

Throwback to 2017 ❤️

It’s hard to believe this little video was filmed almost nine years ago.

When this video was filmed, Dovetail on Overend was already becoming a special gathering place for the local community- and we’ve worked hard every day to maintain the things that make Dovetail special: great coffee, delicious food, freshly baked desserts, catering for your coeliac friends and family members, and creating a place where everyone feels welcome.

Since opening our doors in 2014, we’ve watched first dates turn into marriages, young families grow up, friendships form over coffee, and countless conversations shared around these tables.

Over the years, we’ve also had the privilege of mentoring and working alongside many young staff members who have gone on to do amazing things in their careers. Some started as junior café staff and are now thriving in hospitality, healthcare, aviation and many other industries.

That’s one of the beautiful things about small businesses- they become part of people’s stories and journeys.

With May being Queensland Small Business Month, we also want to celebrate all the hardworking small businesses across Queensland continuing to show up for their communities each day, despite the challenges many are facing right now. ❤️

To everyone who has supported Dovetail over the years- whether you’ve been with us from the beginning or discovered us only recently- thank you for being part of our story.

12 years of Dovetail 💜

What started as a simple love for coffee and baking has grown into something far beyond what we ever imagined.

Over the years, there have been many seasons- moments of growth, uncertainty, and challenges that come with running a small business.

But what has always stayed the same is why we do this.

Dovetail has never just been about food.
It’s about creating a space where people feel welcome, included, and truly looked after - especially our coeliac and gluten-free community.

It’s also a space where we’ve been able to share flavours, stories, and a little piece of culture through what we create.

At its heart, Dovetail is about connection -
bringing people together, families around a table, and sharing moments over good food.

We’re incredibly grateful to still be here, doing what we love.
