Hao Chi by Lee's Yumcha has opened!
We were honoured to be invited to the grand opening on Sunday. Coincidently, it was exactly one full year from our last day of trade.

Chinois was becoming old and tired (much like us), but now it has completely transformed, with fresh and modern decor and an exciting high-class Chinese menu. We are truly amazed and admire the effort Lee and Tiffeny have put into creating a venue Newcastle will be proud of.

Please show them your support, and be patient as they navigate through the teething stage of opening a business.

Chinois is officially CLOSED.

Thank you all for your well wishes these past few weeks. We were overwhelmed by the sincere messages, flowers, and gifts since we announced our retirement. It was wonderful to see so many customers travel and visit us one last time. It has been heartwarming to see so many celebrate Chinois' last hurrah.

We hope you can bring that energy for the new owners, Hao Chi by Lees yumcha.
We are confident they will do 326 King Street proud when they open in 2023.

It was our absolute pleasure to serve Newcastle for the past 25 years.

Chinois will close its doors after Saturday 3rd of December 2022.

After many years in operation, it is time to close Chinois and enjoy retirement with family and friends.

First, I want to thank the Newcastle community for supporting our restaurant for 25 years. It has been an absolute pleasure to serve our food to our patrons near and far. Second, I would like to thank the staff who have worked with us over the years. Thank you for your teamwork and service. Third I would like to thank my family, who have supported running Chinois since we opened in 1997.

Over the last few years, we have faced many challenges: pandemic, changes in the restaurant industry, staff shortages, and our age -all have signalled that it is time to sell the restaurant.

As we near the end of an era, please bear in mind that we are limiting our service before closure, and there may be limited availability for bookings and extended wait times for takeaway. We ask for your patience and understanding.
We thank you for your loyal patronage at Chinois and look forward to seeing what the new owners will bring to King Street Newcastle.
