The final minor round of 2026 brings together two clubs with some serious Grand Final history—and gives you another chance to WIN a $20 AFM voucher!
🏆 A GRAND FINAL RIVALRY
Brisbane’s famous premiership era began in 2001 when Michael Voss led the Lions to a 26-point Grand Final victory over Essendon.
One year later, Brisbane met Collingwood in the 2002 Grand Final. In a wet and bruising contest, the Lions prevailed 10.15 (75) to 9.12 (66), completing back-to-back premierships.
The sides returned to the Grand Final stage in 2003, when Brisbane defeated Collingwood by 50 points to complete one of football’s greatest premiership three-peats.
Twenty years later, the Magpies finally gained some Grand Final revenge. Collingwood defeated Brisbane 12.18 (90) to 13.8 (86) in an unforgettable 2023 decider watched by more than 100,000 fans at the MCG.
Brisbane then responded by winning the 2024 and 2025 premierships, making the Lions the reigning back-to-back premiers heading into this contest.
🔥 RECENT MEETINGS
The Magpies have won three of the past five meetings, but Brisbane has claimed the two most recent encounters:
🦁 Round 4, 2026: Brisbane by 54 points
🦁 2025 Preliminary Final: Brisbane by 29 points
⚫ Round 6, 2025: Collingwood by 52 points
⚫ Round 23, 2024: Collingwood by 1 point
⚫ Round 3, 2024: Collingwood by 20 points
The Round 24 clash also comes with a fascinating off-field storyline.
AFL.com.au has reported that Collingwood is actively pursuing Brisbane superstar Lachie Neale, with the Magpies potentially prepared to offer the dual Brownlow medallist and premiership captain a three-year contract.
Neale is an unrestricted free agent but has not yet announced what he will do in 2027. Could one of Brisbane’s greatest players finish his career in black and white—or will he remain a Lion?
