According to a new study, grinding coffee beans more coarsely and using fewer beans can provide a higher quality coffee, while also saving money and wastage at the same time.

When implemented in an Oregon café, the approach led to a 25 percent reduction in used coffee grounds between September 2018 and 2019.

Alongside coffee grounds is the issue of coffee cups. An estimated one billion coffee cups end up in landfill each year within Australia. That’s roughly 2,700,00 paper coffee cups thrown out every day.

7-Eleven is providing stores with ‘Simply Cups’ bins to promote a more environmentally friendly way of recycling coffee cups. 7-Eleven is also aiming to recycle 70 million cups which is equivalent to the number of cups they sell in Australia each year.

Ford has set a goal to only use recycled and renewable plastics for their vehicles. Ford and McDonald’s are partnering to provide more durable for vehicle parts by heating coffee chaffs to high temperatures with low oxygen.
This will provide lighter car parts, decrease the use of petrol and lower CO2 emissions.
