Happy World Cotton Day to those who celebrate 🎉

World Cotton Day was established to recognise the importance of cotton to the world - the fact it’s a natural fibre, a food source and that it’s used to make the clothes we wear every day. We feel so proud to be part of this industry.

Our Narrabri team had plenty to celebrate at the Lower Namoi Cotton Growers Association’s awards and golf day on Friday, with some fantastic results from last season recognised.

AFF farm Appletrees received the award for highest yield over 250 hectares, and the team at Bunderoo Farms, who have been loyal ginning customers of ours, took out highest dryland yield.

Our Narrabri Farm Manager, Paul Flewitt was named overall Grower of the Year, with him and his team being recognised for their excellent production results but also the extensive work they've conducted with researchers and scientists on disease, soil health and sustainability.

It was especially meaningful to see the late Vic Melbourne honoured with a Service to Industry Award. Vic’s award was accepted by his grandson, Paul Lehmann.

Congratulations to our production team and everyone recognised on the day.

Today is R U OK? Day - an important reminder that a simple conversation can make a real difference.

At AFF, we’re proud to support mental health, particularly across rural and regional communities.

Through our partnership with Tama Australia Cotton , a portion of funds from every blue cotton wrap used on our bales is donated to the Beyond Blue Support Service. Last year, this contribution helped fund more than 1,000 contacts with the service, with each call costing $66 to provide.

It’s a reminder of just how important it is to make support available when people need it, but support can also start much closer to home.

Today, we encourage everyone to check in with the people around them. Ask the question, listen, and give someone the time to talk.

R U OK? has some great practical resources to help you start a conversation and know what to say next: https://www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask

A conversation could change a life.

The team at Trangie was so excited to catch up with the Dollar for Dusty crew as they walked through Trangie, on their way to Canberra.

Dusty is making the 500km trip from Warren to Canberra to raise funds for Little Wings Australia , which helps brings paediatricians to the bush. We are absolutely honoured to support your mission, Dusty. What a legend!

We’ll be cheering on the Moree Rugby Union club in all three grades this weekend. As the junior Bulls said - tackle hard and have fun!

After 59 years of ginning with AFF, the final bales for Stan Carberry and Sons recently made their way through our Narrabri Gin.

Following the sale of their farm, Pat, Mike, Sam and Lachy came into the gin to watch their last bales being processed, marking the end of a significant chapter for their family and for us at AFF.

Across three generations, the Carberry family has been a valued part of our company and the wider cotton industry. Pat and Mike have been active and respected members of the industry, generously contributing their time, knowledge and experience over many years.

It was special to have the family together at Narrabri for their final bales and an opportunity for our team to recognise a relationship spanning nearly six decades.

Thank you to Pat, Mike, Sam and Lachy, and the entire Stan Carberry and Sons family, for your support and loyalty over the years. It has been a pleasure to have you as part of the AFF story.

🐂 Bullish or 🐻 bearish on the future of cotton?

At the Australian Cotton Conference, our Chief Commercial Manager, Josh Zarco led an international Bulls vs Bears panel exploring the forces shaping the global cotton industry and where the market could be headed next.

Josh was joined by Joe Nicosia, LDC, USA; Chris Kramedjian, Meadow Grove Research, USA; Hank Reichie, Staplcotn, USA; Sophie Su, Hang Tung, China; and Vinayak Mohan, Olam Global Agri, Singapore, who shared whether they were bullish or bearish on some of the key factors shaping the future of the cotton industry.

A heavily discussed topic was whether the cotton industry is winning the battle against synthetic fibres. The panel saw a significant opportunity for Australian growers and the broader cotton industry to promote natural fibre as an alternative to synthetics, particularly as global awareness and concern around microplastics continues to grow.

You can watch the full discussion here - it’s certainly worth a listen for anyone wanting to better understand some of the biggest challenges and opportunities facing the global cotton industry:
