The Yaama Ganu Centre houses an Aboriginal Art Gallery and cafe and is a joint funded venture between the Aboriginal Employment Strategy (AES) and the Indigenous Land Council (ILC). One of the primary purposes of the centre is to tackle the Indigenous Employment issues in the town of Moree and currently and has been a huge success. The centre is managed by Sascha Estens, daughter of Dick Estens, the founder of the AES and Toby Osmond a restauranteur from Sydney who is well known for his exclusive restaurants and bars known as Will & Toby's. The cafe staff are an all Indigenous team and the cafe is open 7 days and for functions also. "The centre's already provided a full tourist experience for passing travellers, and a fresh new face for the foodie scene for locals."

Amy Yilpi

We are so pleased to be receiving a new consignment of three larger scale works from popular.

Amy creates a wonderful lightness on the canvas through her clever patterned markings and gentle palette. Works from the current APY show sold very quickly, thrilled to have new works to share.

Contact the gallery for details.

Featured Artists from our current APY Group Show - NGURA WIRU (GOOD COUNTRY)

‘Iwantja Arts is an Indigenous owned and governed Aboriginal art centre located in the rocky desert country of Indulkana Community on the APY Lands in the remote north west of South Australia.

Iwantja Arts is named after the Iwantja Creek near where the Indulkana Community was founded, which is near the site of the Tjurki (owl) Tjukrpa.

The art centre was established in the 1980s and now supports the artistic careers of over 40 predominantly Yankunytatjara artist members, providing access to artistic and professional development.’

We are delighted to present the new group show NGURA WIRU (GOOD COUNTRY).

A presentation of new work from leading APY Art Centres - Iwantja Arts, Mimili Maku Arts and Tjala Arts.

‘Ngura Wiru translates from the Pitjantjatjara and Yangunytjatjara languages to ‘Good Country’ or ‘Beautiful Country’.

It is a significant cultural expression, reflecting an enduring, profound connection to Aṉangu law and creation stories. It is a phrase used in Aṉangu art to describe ancestral homelands, the vitality of the land and deep cultural connections to Country.’

Exhibition now online.

We always look forward to a visit from Aboriginal Employment Strategy MD Kristy Masella. A friend, mentor, leader and continual inspiration for her work in indigenous employment.

Yaama Ganu is owned and operated by the AES.

‘Founded in 1997, the Aboriginal Employment Strategy empowers Indigenous Australians through meaningful employment and career development opportunities. Co designed with communities, our model breaks through barriers by meeting people where they’re at. Were by mob, for mob.

Over the past 30 years, we’re proud to have connected more than 28,000 people with employment, apprenticeships and traineeships in partnership with over 550 employees.’

We asked Kristy to choose a favourite work from our new Iwantja Arts consignment. Sallyanne Roberts gentle depiction of the special women’s country Kuru Ala a perfect choice - ‘a special place where young girls go to become women.’ 💕

We are loving this new direction that Pitjantjatjara Artist Marissa Munti is taking with her practice. Wild!!!

Marissa Munti grew up with her grandmother and grandfather at Kunamata. Now based in Amata, Marissa paints her grandfathers Country which includes the Emu Tjukuṟpa and often includes references to emu tracks in her works.

Marissa will feature in our upcoming presentation of works from across the APY.
