Emotional day at the cafe today.

We said goodbye to Harry - Who’s heading back home to England for a little visit with his partner before beginning his next chapter.

Then we welcomed Sophia back to the kitchen. After having extended time off because she broke 4 fingers. 4!! OUCH.

We’ll miss Harry, and we’ve missed Sophia. So it’s a bit glass half full and a bit glass half empty.

Yep, is his last day tomorrow and he’s leaving us with a colourful number!

House focaccia + cauliflower (roasted cauliflower + pickled purple cauliflower + cauliflower puree) + kimchi + nori + fried egg.

It’s pretty pretty. And pretty delicious!

And we’d love to invite you to our little shindig here at the cafe on the 13th of June.

12.30-3pm. Fluff will be rocking the BBQ as usual. There’ll also be drinks, birthday cake and a lot of merriment. And balloons!! Can’t have a bday without balloons.
It’ll all be happening.

We’ll be donating some of our coffees sales along with our BBQ sales to CafeSmart - A great little not for profit who help combat homelessness, domestic and family violence, poverty and food insecurity.

We’ll be asking some of our great suppliers to pitch in and help out too.

We’d love to see each and every one of you!

Sophia is back. Well, back in the county anyway.

Yep, it’s been hot minute, Sophia!! We’ve missed you.
But we’re glad you’re back and ready to start work next week!!

In other news… sad news might I add. Harry is leaving us.😭

I know… we’re a little gutted too. We’ve been very lucky to keep him this long. His enthusiasm and energy has been a constant inspiration for all of us here. His last day will be Friday 5th June., so please come down to say good bye.

The ebb and flow of cafe life I guess.

Omelette Arnold Bennett to be exact!!

Jamie’s was more of an expression. Something of an “gorblimey” type thing. Arnold Bennett’s (British novelist and playwright) was a dish of his own creation. Something he ordered every time he stayed at the Savoy Hotel.

So, what is it…?

3 egg omelette + smoked cod + sauce mornay + parmesan

Quickly torched and finished with fresh chives for that little something extra. It’s 19.20s grandeur at its simplest!

Well, shokupan to be exact. It’s a lot of work and not something that we can have as a permanent menu item. But we can, however, use it on this weekends special.

All I’ll say at this stage I that our special is going to be a Benedict of sorts.😉

This one - inspired by Fluff’s recent travels through Italy and is a faithful adaptation of what she ate.

And so, Custodian Kitchen will be closed Good Friday and Easter Monday.

We will, of course, be doing our fabulous thing from 7am - 12pm Easter Saturday and Sunday.

This pic was taken around 7.30am Labour Day. The light was perfect, the shadows were long and the sun was warm. It was that little quiet moment before it all kicked off - The calm before the storm, if you will.
