Long Mac Topped up anyone? Its official
Often, when I'm out and about, people ask me 'what is the official sandwich and coffee order of Western Australia?' and they are shocked by the answer:
We’ve never had one. But today, that changes.
Two significant local culinary innovations have shown our mastery of some of the most popular types of foods and drinks around the world. Today we pay tribute to those wonderful WA products.
I am pleased to announce that today, 1 April 2021, is a historic day - the day we declare our first Official Coffee Order and Official Sandwich.
WESTERN AUSTRALIA'S OFFICIAL COFFEE ORDER
In the high stakes world of coffee - Australia has developed a unique style and reputation for quality brews.
While at times controversial, the Australian style of coffee has started to spread across the world. We may go heavy on the milk - but who can complain when the result is so good.
People go on about Melbourne coffee, but the fact is that here in WA we've perfected the art - and our most special order is proof of that fact.
It's an order that will only get you puzzled reactions from a barista anywhere else, but it's a favourite over here:
The Long Mac Topped Up.
Some may call it inauthentic. Some may say it's not a real thing. Some may suggest it's just a triple-shot latte.
All I know is that it's a great coffee.
And now, it's the Official Coffee Order of Western Australia.
WESTERN AUSTRALIA'S OFFICIAL SANDWICH
The first Continental Rolls were made right here in Western Australia in the 1950s.
A favourite of customers, the humble Conti Roll became a WA institution.
There are a few different takes on the Conti, but the combinations of meats, cheese, and pickled veggies in a glorious roll have given our State many legendary sandwiches at delis across WA.
No WA-made sandwich has had half the impact, or half the legacy of the Continental Roll.
It's a WA icon - and now it will be an official WA icon, and our Official Sandwich.
