We often have people question our $16 kaitri's Burger. We make all our patties ourselves and every one of them have premium beef mince and 9 other ingredients. They weigh 165gms each. These are made by paid staff in oury commercial kitchen. Power, gas, rent, insurance, work cover, tax, gst, council costs pays.
They also have sliced lettuce, sliced tomato, Sliced tasty cheese (not the cheap burger cheese) 2 short cut bacon, a fried egg and sauce. Our buns are made by bakeries also and contain no preservatives or sugar. They also cost us 90cents each. Also cooked on the days by paid staff with tax. In a canteen that we pay the clubs to be in.
We also like to get paid to work, just like everyone else which most days we dont.
The big M for instance has an incredible buying power and gets everything extremely cheap. Im sure they aren't paying $14kg for their mince, but their 1/4 pounder deluxe patties are 120g contain cheap burger cheese, tiny bit of lettuce and 1 piece of tomato, sauces, pickle if your lucky and about 6 pieces of diced onion. They will charge you $10.45
Everyone is happy to go to a restaurant and pay $24 for a burger but just because we are selling it at a canteen it should be cheaper. It's the same product. I just saw a homemade pie for $11.15
Food costs are massive theses days and maybe before you complain about the price of something, stop and think about how many times people expect you to work for free or nothing because they believe it to expensive.
