Every two months, TWØBAYS releases a new limited-edition speciality beer so that those avoiding gluten have the same opportunities to explore craft beer as everybody else. From a hoppy Brown Ale to a passionfruit sour, and everything in between, early adopters are on a craft beer odyssey that has no limits. The brewery opened its doors in December 2018, three years after founder Richard Jeffares had been diagnosed with Coeliac Disease. A keen craft beer drinker, Richard missed exploring tasting paddles and talking flavours, mouthfeel and aroma with friends – he missed the whole experience and was disappointed with Australia’s gluten free beer offering. He travelled in the US, where breweries had established impressive facilities and taprooms with a range of gluten free food for both the inquisitive and the loyal patrons to come and explore great beer. Upon his return he went about securing exclusivity over the very best malts in the world, and he started to build a dedicated gluten free brewery and taproom in Dromana on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. Today, visitors from all over Australia – and even the world – come to the taproom to see the stainless steel in action, and taste the delightful beers brewed on site. With nine beers on tap and red gum wood-fired pizzas (all gluten free), there are plenty of reasons to take in the full gluten free experience. New beers are regularly released on tap to try new ingredients and flavours, with a raspberry Berliner Weisse, wattle seed Cascadian Dark Ale and a puffed quinoa Saison the latest served up. The brewery is breaking completely new ground, constantly staking claim to world-first beer releases and campaigns. During Coeliac Awareness week, six craft beer havens across the country are handing over taps for gluten free beer tap takeovers – an event never dreamt of outside of the barley beer world before on weekend in February 2021 when TWØBAYS took over nine taps in Sydney and seven in Brisbane at the very best craft beer bars.
