Tucked away in a little hidden laneway on Bourke Street, YummiGo.Mel Japanese Eatery feels like one of those places you walk past without realising what’s hiding inside… until you discover the prices!
I mean… $9.90 donburi bowls in THIS economy?!
Chicken, beef and more, packed with rice and toppings — and even their standard don bowls are just $14.99.
Honestly, this is exactly what I want for a weekday Melbourne lunch: quick, affordable, tasty and actually filling.
We ordered a little bit of everything and had such a good feast:
Pork Katsu Curry Combo — crispy, comforting and packed with flavour
Karaage Chicken — juicy, crispy little bites that disappeared FAST
Chawanmushi — soft, silky and savoury
Nori Chips — crunchy and seriously snackable
Teriyaki Beef Don Combo — hearty, saucy and satisfying
Chicken Katsu Curry Combo — another proper comfort-food win
Large Prawn Tempura — light, crispy and perfect for sharing
Takoyaki — because Japanese food without takoyaki just feels wrong
Teriyaki Chicken Don — simple, saucy and filling
Premium Vanilla Matcha Mixed Soft Serve — and OMG… DO NOT leave without trying this! The matcha + vanilla combination was creamy, sweet and SO good.
They also have a DIY takoyaki station and a miso soup station, which makes the experience feel a little more interactive and fun — especially if you’re grabbing lunch with friends.
What I loved most? The speed. You can pop in during a busy weekday, get a proper Japanese meal without waiting forever, and leave feeling full without wondering where your $30 disappeared.
