In 1912 Otto Fredrick Rohwedder of Davenport, Iowa, decided enough is enough! Sick of hacking away like a blind pirate, risking severe injury to both himself and his loved ones, and tired of throwing away most of his breakfast, he set to work developing what is widely considered to be the greatest 'thing' ever willed into existence. It took him a while, he battled stiff opposition from the religio

us conservative, wild factory fires, and crippling engineering blunders, but in 1928 Otto released to the world the first fully automated loaf-at-a-time bread-slicing machine - thus creating 'Sliced Bread'!!! Since then humanity has anticipated with bated breath the next creation worthy of following the phrase "The best thing since..." Which is why with great pleasure we welcome you to experience 'Merchant & Maker' - a coffee focused cafe obsessed with delivering the best breakfast and lunch the world has ever beheld. Be pampered by our super team of pretty decent hospos, while sampling delicious specialty coffee from Commonfolk, delectable treats from our talented kitchen team, tasty shakes, amazing teas and even a cheeky craft beer. Hey and if you're still not sold we can even get nostalgic and offer old mate Otto's favourite... ours will probably be sourdough ;)
