Time Cannon update! 📢

Independent expert advice has outlined a pathway to bring back Maryborough's much-loved Time Cannon firing tradition.

Council will seek to have the original Time Cannon classified as an antique fi***rm as it was manufactured in 1901.

Council has also resolved to place the six replica cannons into approved storage for up to eight weeks while awaiting any alternative advice from the Queensland Premier. If no alternative advice is received, the replicas will be made inoperable to comply with Queensland law. Once this work is complete, the replica cannon at Maryborough City Hall will be returned as a permanent public monument 🙌

There's still more work to do before the Time Cannon can fire again, including safety checks, licences, approvals, procedures and specialist training.

Council remains committed to working through this process carefully to explore a safe and compliant return of this much-loved tradition 👏

Another week at the Rainbow Beach Fishing Classic. Our family have been attending The Comp for many, many years and when first asked to bring The Cart, I thought, “oh, may as well, I’m there anyway.” Now I see the same friendly faces across from me, remember their orders, watch their kids grow, cheer them on through weigh-ins, celebrate their wins, ask some girlfriends to jump in when I’m double booked. I love this community. The week is long and tiring when you’re trying to do it all, but the memories are worth it and being part of community is worth it. Thanks for having us. Here’s to next year’s big one! And hopefully a few more days on the water than the last few years! (But apparently I only needed one, anyway 😅🙌🏽)
