The Margaret River Region is an enticing mosaic of pristine natural wonders, premium wineries, relaxed microbreweries, world-class restaurants, spectacular beaches, towering forests, inspirational artisans, warm and friendly locals, and a laid-back persona all of its own. From the tranquil waters of Geographe Bay in the north, down the ancient cave-carved Leeuwin-Naturaliste Ridge, through picturesque vineyards and karri forest of the heartland, to the desolate beauty of Cape Leeuwin in the south, this is a place of astounding natural contrasts. You’ll need at least a few days to explore the region; follow our page to understand why! The Margaret River Busselton Tourism Association honours the traditional owners of this land, the Wadandi (Saltwater) people, and their elders past, present and emerging. We acknowledge the Wadandi people’s 60,000-year custodianship of this special place, and we thank them for generously sharing with us their immensely deep cultural knowledge and connection to the land. There’s a lot to take in when you’re wandering through Boranup Forest. 🌳🪶

One of the many reasons we love the forest is the sounds. Go for a wander, then stop and close your eyes for a moment - soak in all kinds of bird calls (cockatoos in this case), the wind moving through the trees, and sometimes even the distant rumble from the nearby ocean.

👉 Travelling south from Margaret River, when you come around the bend on Caves Road, you’ll see the forest opening up - trust us, you’ll know when. 😍 Take it slow through this stretch: the car park is on your left, and the walking trail is across the road on the right, so keep an eye out for fellow adventurers crossing. The trail stretches a few hundred metres into the forest and is a great little preview of what lies beyond.

👉 If you’re up for more, continue down Caves Road and turn right onto Boranup Drive. This 2WD gravel track takes you on a beautiful scenic loop through the forest. Eventually bringing you to Boranup Forest Lookout, this is a perfect picnic spot where you can soak in sweeping views over the treetops and the Indian Ocean in the distance. ☕

Please note: Boranup Drive is shared with hikers, mountain bikers and wildlife, so take it slow here.

Have you visited Hamelin Bay? 💎

It doesn’t just have crystal-clear water, a huge beach and stingrays - its history runs deep too, with remnants of its former timber-milling past still sitting right in the middle of it all.

Go for a wander along the beach, head up towards the lookout at the point for incredible views over Hamelin Island, or stay overnight at Hamelin Bay Holiday Park Holiday Park to explore a little deeper.

And a little friendly reminder about those curious stingrays 🩵  While they’re curious and beautiful, they’re wild animals and should stay wild - for their safety and yours. Please don’t touch, follow or feed them.
