Maldon Bakery took out Best Bakery category for our Lentil & Veg Curry Pie in the Mount Alexander Shire at the 2025 Edgy Veg Awards. The judges singled it out, saying it "impressed with its perfect pastry and flavour-packed filling, highlighting the region's innovative bakery scene."
This isn't a token vegan box to tick — it's one of the most flavour-packed things in the cabinet, full stop. A proper country bakery doing vegan this well isn't something you find everywhere, and we reckon that's worth shouting about as much as anything else in the case.

All of our bread is sourdough — proper bread, made the old way: just flour, water, salt and leaven, carefully mixed and given the time it needs to bloom into that lovely light, chewy crumb.

What makes our Light Rye special is the caraway seeds folded through — rye and caraway is one of the oldest pairings in baking, giving it the classic earthy, peppery, aniseed twist that not every light rye bothers with these days.

Grab a loaf fresh from the oven, tear it open, and taste the difference for yourself!

Our Traditional Pastie took home a Silver at the 2025 Great Aussie Pie Competition — proof the Sausage Roll isn't the only thing worth queuing for. Golden, flaky pastry, packed with a proper hearty filling, just as happy in a tradie's hand as on a tourist's picnic table.

One of the best parts of running a small business is finding people like Sammi. She joined us five weeks ago, fresh out of her Certificate III in Baking at Bendigo TAFE — her first career as a pastry chef, after earlier lives in an array of careers. "This is a job I've always wanted to do," she told us. "I get excited to come to work every morning." That's the kind of energy that makes a bakery, and we feel lucky to have found it. The wonderful old pomegranate tree in the Maldon Bakery garden has provided shade and cover for generations of customers enjoying bakery treats. Does anyone know how old it is and when and by whom it was planted. We’re curious.
