🌿 Destination Tablelands | Keep an eye out for our local characters

One of the most incredible things about exploring the Atherton Tablelands is never quite knowing who you might meet along the way.

Cassowaries are often seen around Lake Eacham, and we also have a resident along the Gillies Highway who seems fairly convinced the road belongs to him! 🖤💙

If you spot him, be patient, slow down and give him plenty of space while he struts his stuff.

These magnificent birds are a very special part of our region and deserve our total respect.

🚫 Never feed cassowaries
↔️ Keep your distance
🚗 Slow down and be prepared to stop
🌿 Observe quietly and let them move on in their own time

Seeing a cassowary in the wild is something pretty special, enjoy the moment, take your photos from a safe distance and help us protect these amazing birds.
