I had the pleasure of speaking with Bede and Rose today as they countdown the days until they set off on their overseas journey to conquer the Kokoda Track.
With a mix of excitement and nerves, they are both packing their bags ready to board their first flight this Sunday afternoon.
Earlier this year, they were both awarded the Leongatha RSL Kokoda Trek Scholarship after successfully completing an essay and interview process. Since then, they have been diligently training behind the scenes, engaging in long hikes, stair climbing, and strength training, all with the support of their families and friends. They are both well prepared for the challenging adventure that lies ahead.
The wider community has played an integral role in getting the two of them on this adventure, with all of their expenses covered by the Leongatha RSL Kokoda Scholarship that patrons have been generously donating to. We thank everyone for their contributions and are looking forward to sharing their tales with you all once they return.
As Bede and Rose prepare to embark on this life changing experience, they are filled with gratitude for the unwavering support from everyone around them. They hope to return with not only stories of their adventure but also a renewed perspective on life and a deeper appreciation for the courage and sacrifice of those who walked the Kokoda Track before them.
