Stelo at Pierre’s brings Tasmanian produce through a modern Italian lens to one of Launceston’s most historic dining rooms. Led by Lauren and Nathan, Stelo is built around handmade pasta, seasonal produce, generous flavour, thoughtful wine and service that is polished, warm and proudly Tasmanian. Our menu celebrates local growers, fishers and producers from Tasmanian Wagyu and coastal seafood to o

rganically grown vegetables, burrata, sourdough focaccia, gnocchi and tiramisu. Alongside our à la carte menu, a weekly five-course tasting menu reflects what is best, rare or fleeting in the season. Set on George Street, Stelo spans two grand dining rooms, a bar, lounge and private dining space, with locally crafted leather banquettes, Tasmanian oak, crisp linen and a warm, intimate atmosphere. First established in 1956, Pierre’s Café and Brasserie became part of Launceston’s story when it welcomed Australia’s first commercial espresso machine. Seventy years on, Stelo continues that legacy with a modern Italian restaurant that is proudly local, elegant and full of life.

SERAFINO WINE DINNER AT STELO

On Thursday 27 August, Stelo welcomes Serafino Head Winemaker Brett Smith for an intimate wine dinner celebrating Italian heritage, McLaren Vale and the craft of bringing food and wine together properly.

Guests will begin the evening with Serafino sparkling and a canapé on arrival, followed by four courses created by Chef Nathan Johnston. Each course will be paired with a Serafino wine, with Brett guiding guests through the vineyards, varieties and winemaking stories behind each bottle.

The evening will feature:

Serafino sparkling on arrival
Sharktooth Chardonnay
Reserve Grenache
A side-by-side tasting of Serafino McLaren Vale Shiraz and Sharktooth Shiraz
Serafino Tawny
Four courses by Chef Nathan Johnston
Wine commentary from Head Winemaker Brett Smith

The Serafino story began in the 1960s when Serafino “Steve” Maglieri arrived in Australia from Italy and soon planted vines with his father Giovanni in McLaren Flat. Today, that family legacy continues through the next generations of the Maglieri family, alongside Brett and the Serafino winemaking team.

Thursday 27 August
6.00 pm arrival
$210 per person

Sixteen hours. Hand-rolled. Proper crackle.

Our porchetta is rubbed with fennel seed and black pepper, rolled by hand, then slow-cooked for 16 hours until the pork is tender and the crackling is exactly as it should be.

Served with celeriac braised with pancetta, tomato and shallot.

Available at lunch and dinner, and also on our private dining menus.

Some dishes make an entrance. This one arrives with a crunch.

We know how to throw them.

At Stelo, we've spent years hosting everything from milestone birthdays and engagement parties to corporate launches, client evenings and celebrations that simply deserved to be done properly.

Exceptional cocktails.
Handmade canapés.
Warm, polished service.
A room that hums from the first glass until the last goodbye.

Whether it's 20 guests or 120, we'll help you create an event people will still be talking about on Monday.

Lunch deserves a little ceremony.

A proper table. A warm room. Handmade pasta. Tasmanian produce. Good wine, if the day allows, and some days are very persuasive.

At Stelo, lunch is not dinner’s understudy. It has its own rhythm.

It can be quick, elegant and back-to-work responsible.
It can be long, loose and “let’s not rush the tiramisu.”
It can be a client lunch, a birthday lunch, a Friday lunch, or simply the very civilised act of leaving the office to eat something made with care.

We cook with Tasmanian produce through an Italian lens, in dining rooms that have been part of Launceston’s story for nearly 70 years.

So here is our invitation:

Make lunch a little more generous again.
