💔 Some plans change... but some celebrations become even more meaningful.

This year's Christmas in July will be unlike any other. Saturday July 25.

Instead of celebrating with our beautiful St Bernard Gus, we'll be celebrating for him.

Gus touched so many hearts, and while we'll miss his big smile, gentle nature and loving spirit, we'd love you to join us as we remember him the best way we know how—together.

🎣🐟 IT’S LOOKING GOOD FOR OPENING DAY! 🐟🎣

It’s great to see all the hard work by Inland Fisheries Tasmania starting to pay dividends. The Snowy River running into Lake Leake appears to have quite a few beautiful browns from the Great Lake doing their business here — and that’s fantastic news for the lake this year!

Well done to the IFS team! 👏🎣

❤️ Obituary for Gus ❤️

Simply known as Gus, a small name for a dog with such a massive presence and huge heart. Unfortunately it was that big loving heart that eventually took him from us. DCM is a heart disease common in large breeds of dogs.

Gus was the people‘s dog. He spent the first half of his life on Bruny Island with Pete and Erica before moving to Lake Lake. He then decided to spend a little time with the caretakers Jan And Walter where he quickly appointed himself as the Mayor of the lake and after a few short walks up to the Inn, he discovered that the Tomahawk steaks were not too bad.

The pats were plenty and the love came from people that surrounded him day by day. No one person could ever give Gus the amount of love that he needed. It was at this stage in Gus’s life he decided to rehome himself. After a few nights sleeping at the front door of the pub he politely moved himself inside and made camp on the lounge in front of the fire, but not only had he moved in to the pub, but he had moved himself into our hearts.

Hence not many nights were spent on that lounge. He found his way upstairs and into my bed. and for all that knew Gus, it was a big bed but he never left much room - but that sort of went for the rest of the pub as well.

He would just clunk himself right in the middle of toilet doorways. The beer taps, the fridge, not even to move a muscle or maybe just lift an eyebrow.

You had to either find your way around Gus or step over him completely, unless of course you've never visited before and he felt the need to greet you at the door.

People loved to have their photo taken with Gus and he loved to be the star so the Wall of Gus was started. Unfortunately there’ll be no more photos placed on that wall. But nearly 200 pictures remain there as a testament to how much he was loved by so many.

Our home, our lives, our pub and our hearts will never be the same. Gus was a dog that had a story and that story he chose himself. We were all just blessed to tag along for the ride. Rest in peace Gus, our beautiful big boy will never be forgotten.

💔 Some dogs come into our lives... and quietly become part of everyone else's too.

Gus was one of those dogs.

Whether he was greeting customers, wandering around looking for a pat, or simply keeping Troy company, Gus became part of what made the Lake Leake Inn feel like home. He'll be deeply missed by all of us who had the privilege of knowing him.

Troy has shared these heartbreaking words:

"My beautiful boy, my best friend, my life – has been taken too early. Gus, I am absolutely devastated."

There really isn't much more that needs to be said.

Our thoughts are with Troy as he says goodbye to his loyal mate. Thank you, Gus, for all the smiles, the wagging tail, and the memories you leave behind.

Run free, beautiful boy. You'll always have a place in the heart of the Lake Leake Inn. ❤️🐾
