One of the Sutherland Shire's most recognisable food businesses opens its new shop today, Tuesday 20 October, with Loftus Pies relocating just across the road to 100 Bath Road, Kirrawee.
After many years operating from Yalgar Road, the award-winning pie maker has announced its new premises will welcome customers from Tuesday, promising the same familiar pies in a new location.
The move marks another milestone for a business that began in Como in 1978 and has grown into a food manufacturing operation whose products are sold through Woolworths supermarkets.
Originally known as Como Pies, the business was established by Kerry Spilsbury and a business partner before relocating to Loftus in 1979, where it adopted the name generations of Shire residents would come to recognise.
As the business expanded, it moved to Caringbah in 1984 and then to a new factory in Yowie Road, Kirrawee, in April 1992.
That opening was recognised in NSW Parliament, with then Member for Sutherland Chris Downy praising Kerry and Nadine Spilsbury for expanding their business during difficult economic conditions.
At the time, Loftus Pies had grown from 25 to 32 employees and secured a contract supplying pies and cakes to a major airline.
The company went on to establish a national reputation, collecting numerous awards in the Great Aussie Meat Pie Competition.
In more recent years, Loftus Pies has operated under The Natural Food Group, expanding its manufacturing activities beyond traditional pies and sausage rolls.
The Kirrawee operation produces a range of sweet and savoury baked goods, including cakes, slices and specialty products supplied to retailers and other businesses.
Through The Natural Food Group, the business manufactures products sold at Woolworths, including gluten-free iced carrot cake slices, iced chocolate mud cake slices and the Home Bake Co Dubai Chocolate Slice.
The Dubai-inspired dessert, featuring chocolate cake, pistachio and crispy kataifi pastry, attracted attention in 2025 when the locally manufactured product was picked up by Woolworths.
Despite its expansion into larger-scale food manufacturing, the Loftus Pies name has remained closely associated with the Sutherland Shire.
Its factory outlet has long been a familiar destination for locals purchasing pies, sausage rolls and cakes, while its fundraising drives have supported schools, sporting clubs and community organisations.
From Como to Loftus, Caringbah and Kirrawee, the business has undergone several transformations while retaining a name recognised throughout the Shire.
Now, customers will find Loftus Pies at 100 Bath Road, Kirrawee, with the new shop opening today.
The company says customers can expect the same pies they have always enjoyed, just in a new location.
