After working at the chicken shop since 2018, today is my last shift. I’m going to miss so much about this place, especially my incredible customers. I'll miss seeing Tony on Wednesdays—my crispy chicken wing man. I'll miss the friendly faces whose names I mixed up, like Rory, Corey, Becker, or Baker—I always remembered your orders, even if the names were a challenge!
I'll miss answering the phone and hearing Tracey's voice, only wanting a kebab if I was the one on the grill.
And to my boss, Retesh, who became a true friend: not only did we work together and enjoy a drink or two, but you taught me how to cook incredible Indian food during our shifts. My mum used to take it to her work, and the Indian ladies couldn’t believe an Aussie made it! Thank you for that.
You were the one I could vent to, and you always listened. I'll never forget seeing you cry when your kids started school or the times I cried to you after losing friends. Retesh, you were never just my boss—you were my friend, and you always will be. We're "up the road" now (using public transport, of course!), so we’ll always be in touch.
Thank you for being you, for listening to me, and for teaching me how to cook for my kids (who will now be eating a lot more Indian food, thanks to you).
I will truly miss working with and for you, but our friendship means more. I can't believe tonight is my last shift. You've been the best boss and an even better friend.
