The Tasmanian Greens are calling for a statewide ban on single-use plastics, including the iconic fish-shaped soy sauce containers.

Greens waste spokesperson Helen Burnet said the tiny plastic bottles, recently outlawed in South Australia, were symbolic of the damage caused by disposable plastics.

"Single-use plastics make up a third of the waste in our streets and waterways, doing untold harm to our wildlife," she said.

Environment Minister Madeleine Ogilvie said the government was developing a roadmap to phase out plastics, with a consultation report and draft bill due later this year.

Well done SA! Its been 7 years since we sold any plastic packaging here at sush.

Irony is - the soy fish was originally designed to be a re-usable soy bottle! A single soy fish contains enough sauce for a regular sushi meal.

Every August, the streets of Aomori glow with the magic of the Nebuta Festival 🏮👹

Massive lantern floats shaped like warriors, gods, and mythical creatures parade through the city. They are handcrafted from washi paper, carefully painted and lit from within. Each one takes months to complete and reflects generations of tradition.

Surrounded by dancers, taiko drums, and the sound of celebration, this is one of Japan’s most powerful summer sights.
