Picket Fence Produce

I'm an enthusiastic home gardener living on Mount Nelson (Hobart, Tasmania) who loves growing things!

Picket Fence Produce offers affordable, fresh, seasonal produce and flowers to the local community in Mount Nelson (and surrounding Hobart suburbs) hroughout spring and summer, by arrangement. I have a productive home garden and often have surplus vegetables, herbs, flowers and plants during the growing season - so I've decided to set up a temporary garden-gate stall so nothing goes to waste! All

Picket Fence Produce has been grown with love and nourished with compost and organic fertilisers. I avoid the use of chemical sprays and pesticides wherever possible, but please ensure that you wash fresh items thoroughly before eating. Check this page to see what is currently available and please contact me if you have particular requests. I re-use/recycle bags/pots/punnets wherever possible (and so will gratefully accept donations of any of these!)

Our annual Tomato Seedling Stall will open THIS Saturday, 4th October 2025 🍅

They are looking fabulously strong and healthy, and I am excited to supply Hobart home gardeners again this year!

Initial offerings include Oxheart, Siberian (bush), Rouge de Marmande and Red Cherry. Please note that these have not yet been hardened off so will need to spend at least a couple of weeks in a sunny spot indoors or in a hothouse/greenhouse.

They will be $4 each or three for $10. As always you can pay by cash in the letterbox, PayPal or bank deposit.

I'll be adding lots more varieties in the coming weeks. Thank you to my new and regular customers for supporting my Tassie micro-business 🙏

In previous years, people have said that they would like to buy my tomato seedlings but it's too hard for them to get to Mount Nelson. So I was thinking, maybe I could fill my car with seedlings one weekend and spend an allocated amount of time at a few different places around Hobart, e.g. in carparks of supermarkets or parks.

Is this a good idea or a crazy one? If the former, where should I come to? Comment with your suburb 😁

I'll be potting up several hundred tomato seedlings over the next few days.

This batch is "Siberian" - a fantastic bush/field variety well suited to conditions in Tassie (and Siberia too, presumably 😂)

Start preparing your tomato beds, Hobart gardeners!!!!!

Calling on everyone who's bought tomato seedlings from my Picket Fence Produce stall in previous years - do you have any of these 10cm x 6cm pots lying around?

If so I would love to take them off your hands! Every 10 pots returned to me will earn a voucher redeemable for a free tomato seedling of your choice (once the stall opens in mid October)

Hobart gardeners, are you getting excited for tomato-growing season??!? It is mighty cold at the moment but the Picket Fence Produce tomato seedlings are doing so well. I'm about to commence the mammoth annual job of potting these up so you have lots of gorgeous varieties to grow in your own gardens ❤️

The winter months are always pretty slow over at Picket Fence Produce - but I am busily working behind the scenes to make sure we have LOTS of lovely tomato seedlings ready for our local growers from early October!

Just picked the last of the cucumbers from the hothouse. They are so stumpy and cute 😆

I was so delighted to discover this cosmos which is a cup shape rather than individual petals!
