And just like that the study tour is over and I'm heading home.

Bike was recovered with the help of my very patient brother ( 10yr old me never thought I'd be saying that in this lifetime) and his very good and gracious friends.

The bike will be fixed - its a fuel starvation issue so check the codes and replace whatever.

Now I'm limping back to Aus with plenty of time to contemplate what I've learned.

Heaps of ideas for decor, facilities and menu that I'll prioritise.

I met many people and appreciate those gracious with their time.

I do know that for the most part the best cafes are run by genuine enthusiasts, people who enjoy the roar of a two stroke or growl of a tourer. In that regard we share the passion.

Shed should open back up soon.

Well the traffic beat me so I didn't get to the Ace but all was not lost.

I managed to catch up with an old friend who has been involved with motorcycles, cars and decent cafes for most of his years. Jonathan Kirby , former Sales Manager at a leading motorcycle dealership before moving onto premium marques was my guide. He took me to CTL in Cirencester - great place, plenty of space to look at great bikes, simple quality food and a very warm welcome. I really liked the simplistic quality of the food.

Next we went right upmarket to The Classic Motor Hub. I had to put my glasses on as I stood next to a $1,000,000 Riley. Blimey O'Riley I'd say. They had a coffee and cake offering.

Then onto AV8, a cafe on an airfield, heaps of space and a steady turn over of bikes.

A very good afternoon.

Then we get to Friday - highs and lows. Great to go through my old home town but almost inevitably the bike broke down - had 1hr to go on this trip and the replaced fuel pump failed. So my final day will be spent recovering the sick puppy and putting it into the shop.

It is almost a great bike. I shall persevere.

All in all a great trip - I've learned so much that my brother and I will bring to The Heyshed.

Looking forward to heading back to Oz, to Victoria and of course to The Shed in Heyfield.

Study Tour: next instalment. Devils Bridge was on the list in Kirkby Lonsdale. Idyllic village but the meet is supported by food trucks - no bikes on a Thursday, lots of cars and couldn't find a park. I had a supermarket sandwich and rode out along the heavily camer'd lanes. I'm sure its fantastic on the right day but it held nothing for me.

However - I moved over the Pennines to Yorkshire and just North of Leeds - Sherburn, there is a big meet point called Squire's. Its been here a while. Extensive 'cafe' menu preparing a huge range of " n'chips" meals. I reckon you could order chips'n'chips. Fantastic site - massive bikes only parking, heaps to see. Onsite shop, I really liked the info boards and I will make that happen. Very busy and lots of smiles. The site hosts some big events but it's 4 or 5 times The Shed's footprint.

Enough memorabilia to know you're welcome on a bike but much less than any other venue I've been to.

I enjoyed it, I had a few local enthusiasts as guides with young Theo jumping on the back to make sure I didn't get lost.

Study Tour - limping along.

First up Nick Randall Motorcycles. Proper shed mechanic, 28yrs helping pilgrims. Honest and competent. Sorted my tyre and saw my indicators were shot so replaced them.

So I'm back on the road and at The Baffle Haus. Very well presented, heaps of parking and definitely up to standard.

They package their own coffee ( which is almost as good as the Pillar coffee I use - almost).

Lovely place worth dropping by.

I thought I was ok but got my foot caught up getting off the bike so I was dangling by my bad ankle - not quite the pain of childbirth but ladies now I understand.

Happy to have made it here.

Study Tour update: if this study then I'm in detention. All going well, 3 miles from venue 2 - The Baffle Haus and then I lost the back end. The back tyre let go at 70mph/130kmh. I tried to hang on but drifted into the Armco and the bike bucked and threw me down the road.

Thank all the gods Ian had given me a riding gear change up. The knee armour saved my knee cap.

Every part of my clothing got some.

No visible reason for tyre to go so maybe inner tube but it went instantly.

Thanks to: Kev The Cop - excellent guy, kept us safe. Nick the local bike guy, and two cars following who got me off the road.

Get F@cked to: RAC bike recovery - clueless. CNG Tyres Abergavenny - got the 'tell someone who cares'.

Ankle very sore ( Joe!) and resting up in a hotel until Nick gets me on the road. I'm hoping my ankle isn't broken but I have panadol so all good.

What a great day: The Bikery, Freshwater IOW.

First up the ride there was super. Richard and Emma of The Bikery gave me a route suggestion and it was fantastic.

Got there a bit early and watched the crowd gather. Doors opened and we walked through a series of rooms each packed with genuine quality memorabilia and useful interesting 'stuff'.

The toastie was very nice - and I'm fussy about toasties.

Great team and coffee.

They were very gracious with their time and collaborative advice - encouragement and motivating.

I didn't intend to write a travel show review but I do recommend The Bikery - motorcycle people with great taste and a warm welcome.

I learned a lot and would put it on the map to visit again.

Study trip: Day 1. Bike shake out. Neat ride out to Newport through typical UK country roads.

I'd forgotten how narrow and quick they can be.

Bike is feels very good - previous owner was fastidious so confidence is high.

Dave took me up in his plane so I could find tomorrow's destination. Fantastic to have my own tour guide.

Tomorrow is off to The Bikery, looking forward to it.

Study Trip.
Whilst the team undertake the refurb and routine maintenance I'm off on a motorcycle cafe study trip.

Top of the list is The Bikery (IOW). This place has great reviews.
Next is The Baffle Haus.
Then too many to list - Devils elbow, Ace Cafe, Revs, and so on.

Keen to learn what works well. I know The Heyshed is uniquely situated just below the wilderness trails so we'll continue to build our store of useful spares but what are the famous places doing that we can learn.

Watch this space.
