Our Furniture Shed is packed with treasures waiting to be discovered, including couches, tables and chairs, TV units, bed frames, occasional chairs, buffets, coffee tables, outdoor furniture, bric-a-brac and even a pool table!

Every piece has a story, and every piece is waiting for its next chapter.

And in many ways, that’s what makes our Furniture Shed so special. These items are being given a second chance at life, just like the women who work and train through Shalom Cafe.

LEARNING, GROWING & SERVING AT SHALOM CAFE

Another big week at Shalom Cafe, packed full of exciting bits and pieces, plenty of learning, and lots of opportunities for our ladies to put their skills into practice.

We were thrilled to welcome Amana Living back to the cafe for another morning tea, and Providence Lifestyle popped in for a lunch catch-up. We love seeing local organisations make the cafe part of their regular outings and continuing to build relationships within our community.

Our cake kitchen has also been busy, with a number of custom cake and cupcake orders completed throughout the week. From the decorating bench to the coffee machine and everything in between, there is always plenty happening behind the scenes.

It has also been fantastic watching our staff settle into their new roles with ease. They are finding their own groove, growing in confidence and picking up valuable skills along the way.

What they are learning here goes far beyond hospitality. They are developing communication, teamwork, time management, responsibility, customer service and workplace skills that they can carry with them long after their time at Shalom Cafe, whether that means taking those skills into their own homes and families or choosing to continue pursuing a career in hospitality after completing their program.

Every shift is another opportunity to learn, grow, serve and prepare for what comes next.

SECOND CHANCES & HIDDEN TREASURES

Step into our little treasure trove where every shelf, rack and corner holds something waiting to be discovered. From second hand furniture full of character, to pre-loved clothing, homewares and quirky bits and pieces, each item has a story and a second chance at life.

What may once have been overlooked can become something beautiful, useful and loved again. And in many ways, that reflects the very heart of our cafe.

The women who work here know what it means to be given a second chance. Through support, encouragement and community, lives are being rebuilt day by day, just like the treasures waiting to be found in our store.

So next time you pop in for a coffee, toastie or sweet treat, take a wander through and see what special piece might be waiting for you. One person’s old favourite could become your new treasure.

THERE IS SEASONS FOR A REASON AT SHALOM CAFE!

As the temperature creeps up, so does the pressure as we begin the transition into our new season here at the cafe.

The ladies were extremely comfortable in their roles so cue - role changes with the extra challenge of Nardwyn being on leave to enjoy the weekend at Rottnest with her family and another lady taking time to recuperate after a spider bite the remaining ladies really were thrown in deep end and what swimmers they are!

Nicole had found her happy space in the kitchen baking all things sweet. Whilst Ashleigh tackled the savouries - think marinated meats and roast pumpkins. Chloe continued powering through the op shop replenishing the racks after a busy weekend. The quiet achiever Tina is now our front of house hostess and the friendly face greeting and serving you upon arrival be sure to offer her encouragement as she settles into this new role totally out of her comfort zone - it goes a long way here at the cafe!

Krystal continues to prepare our custom cake orders and oversee the cafe and ladies with her perfect mix of humour and firm assurance.

It was also a pleasure to host the friendly folk from St Mathews Church for a community breakfast after their church service on Sunday - such fun and fellowship. It’s visits like these that fill our cups - thank you and let’s do it again soon !
