READY FOR A STORY?
Hi Saltys Lovers. Last month, one of our Saltys Lovers shared these newspaper clippings with me and I am hoping she won't mind me sharing the story with you. It was such a good, but amusing read. The newspaper clippings are from 50 years ago, February 1976. A lady from Norseman writes to the editor of The Esperance Express sharing her experience of buying a 30 cent serve of chips and getting 24 chips. The shop owner defends his pricing position and why he doesn't like selling chips on their own without fish. They go back and forth in the newspaper. She complains about the price of chips and inflation. Story sound familiar? Here we are, 50 years later, same story going around (not just about chips but everything we buy) - price of chips, paying more for chips on their own, inflation and customer service. The same 'once upon a time stories' circulate through the generations don't they? Back then 30 cents was 24 chips We are talking a 50 year timeframe. According to AI, 30 cents back in 1976 is equivalent to $2.38 now. So for $2.38 now you get 34 chips (give or take a chip). So Saltys gives more value for your buck now than if you were back in 1976? 😆😆 😁🙃 (Keeping it light Saltys Lovers! Hey, I'm a fish and chip shop owner not an economist!) Leave it with you.
