To our amazing customers,
As you know we have been working hard to secure a new location for Gympie Social over the passed few months since our sudden closure in July, unfortunately we’ve had a multitude of factors that made it much more difficult.
After our first plan to move fell through at the final hour, we were back to square one.
Nevertheless, we were determined and looked at many potential locations for the business to move to and came extremely close to securing a great spot a couple of times.
We explored many different options and avenues from looking at downsizing inside a shopping centre, to doing a temporary ‘pop up’ shop, a food trailer, to a shop in a flood zone (with a plan for when we did get flooded).
We even tried to buy a business instead of leasing a space just so that we could get our doors back open for our staff and customers and get back into the swing of things.
Unfortunately, all these locations for one reason or another have fallen through; whether it was not meeting our requirements as a store, financially not feasible or wouldn’t pass a council inspection as a food premises. We were so determined to get our doors back open as soon as we could, but the constant knockbacks, hoops and hurdles have been extremely disheartening.
It has been an extremely difficult decision and not one that we have taken lightly, so it deeply saddens me to have to tell you all that I don’t believe we will be able to reopen
Gympie Social in the near future.
When Matt and I first opened this business in 2019 it was truly a dream.
We never could have imagined the level we got to, the unwavering support from the town (especially during covid) or the amazing people we would meet and the team of staff we would have.
We’ve counted our blessings along the way.
Michael and Saraid, our incredible managers became the backbone for Gympie Social and stepped up to keep our doors open when Matt and I had to take a step back due to serious health issues.
It truly has been a heartbreaking decision to make. We really have explored so many different avenues all of which were met with brick walls or hurdles too great for us to climb.
The final blow for us has been Matt’s health which has taken another knock very recently and unfortunately, it’s going to be another longer road to recovery for him.
It’s very clear to us now that it’s essential for us to reevaluate and concentrate on health first and foremost.
From the bottom of our hearts, we just want to thank every single one of customers who have supported us over the years; we have truly loved getting to know all of you.
To those of you who have been holding out for us to reopen again, thank you for believing in us and I am truly so sorry that we couldn’t deliver Gympie Social 2.0 for you.
Emily and Matt.
🙏
