In 2012, we set out to create something deeply connected to who we were. Gerard’s was a restaurant built around the culture, generosity and traditions passed down through generations.
The foundations of Gerard’s have always stretched far beyond its walls. They come from our mother, Salwa's incredible generosity and the way she welcomed people into her home through food, conversation and connection.
Fourteen years ago we wanted to share the richness of Levantine cuisine and culture with Brisbane in a way that felt authentic, thoughtful and contemporary. Over the years, Gerard’s has continued to evolve through the creativity and passion of our chefs, our team, our collaborators and our guests.
We introduced a style of dining that was new for Brisbane and more widely Australia. We did so in a place that was still forging its own identity. To see how James Street and Brisbane’s wider dining scene has evolved and to know Gerard’s played a small part in that, is something we are tremendously proud of.
Our final service will be tomorrow, Saturday the 4th of July and we take comfort in knowing that the new custodians of our space understand its significance and will honour the generosity and hospitality that have defined Gerard's from the very beginning. We could not be happier to be passing our venue on to a tremendous team, with heart, vision and skill.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey. Our team, our suppliers, our partners, our collaborators and everyone who has dined at our tables. Gerard’s exists because of the community that has supported and shaped it.
Thank you and much love, Johnny, Judith and the Gerard's Team.
