Did you know? These giant structures are called Effigies 🔥
Most people come to Frost & Fire to enjoy the atmosphere, fireworks, and the incredible bonfire display, but many don’t realise the towering timber structures at the centre of the event are known as effigies.
An effigy is a large symbolic structure that is traditionally burned during celebrations and seasonal festivals. They often represent the changing of seasons, community spirit, and the transition from darkness to light.
For the past 6 years, we’ve had the privilege of building two effigies each year for the Forbes Frost & Fire Winter Solstice event. Using timber, craftsmanship, and a lot of planning, they are designed specifically for this one unforgettable moment.
At 7:30pm, Emergency Services light the effigies, creating a spectacular display of fire, warmth, and light on the longest night of the year. Standing beside them, you can certainly feel the heat!
Before Forbes Shire Council approached us years ago, we’d never even heard of an effigy. Now, being part of this community tradition has become something we look forward to every winter.
