His Grace Bishop Iakovos, on behalf of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, New Zealand and Asia, honoured the heroes of 1955–1959, reminding us their sacrifice must never be forgotten.

He congratulated the community on hosting this first-of-its-kind exhibition in Australia and awarding the Liberty Medal in recognition of those who fought to free Cyprus from foreign occupation.

Their courage, faith and determination remain a lasting legacy—one we must always remember and pass on to future generations. 🇨🇾

The Cyprus Community NSW Thanksgiving Gathering brings our community together in a spirit of reflection and gratitude. The Australia–Cyprus Achievement Awards, presented on this special evening, recognise Australians whose achievements and contributions have strengthened our nation and inspired generations.

February 26 commemorates the birth of modern Australia in 1788 and modern Cyprus in 1959—a shared day to celebrate new beginnings and give thanks for the opportunities, freedoms, and legacies we enjoy today.

What a beautiful and meaningful start to the year for the Cyprus Community of NSW Dance School.

Today we officially opened the new dance year surrounded by our families, teachers and students, grounded in faith, culture and community. We were deeply honoured to have Father Dimitrios bless our children, our instructors and the year ahead — asking for health, protection, unity and strength.

In our tradition, beginning with a blessing is more than ceremony. It is a reminder that our culture is not only dance and music, but faith, heritage and responsibility to the next generation. Seeing our young dancers stand proudly as they received the blessing was a powerful moment for our entire community.

Thank you to Father Dimitrios for your guidance and spiritual leadership, and to all our dedicated teachers and parents who continue to keep our culture alive through our children.

Here’s to a year filled with pride, discipline, friendship and the joy of Cypriot dance. 🇨🇾
