A little pause for You Cafe
You Cafe will be closed for one day on Saturday 26 September. After a difficult few weeks, I need a day to take a mental break.
I want to respond to a few comments about us online. Someone called our food “fake Chinese food”. We have never claimed to serve traditional Chinese food. We are an Asian fusion café, and that is how we have always described ourselves.
There was also a complaint that the ice cream served with our banana bread was not banana flavoured. We have never advertised it as banana ice cream.
Someone was unhappy that their takeaway coffee did not have latte art, and posted online telling others to avoid our cafe because of it. We do not make latte art on takeaway coffees because we put lids on the cups — the design would be covered straight away. We enjoy making latte art for dine-in coffees, but we cannot promise a particular picture. Please do not shout at or speak rudely to our staff if they cannot make the design you requested especially when we are busy.
For the past three years, we have kept our standard hot coffee prices at $4.80 for 8 oz, $5.20 for 12 oz and $6 for 16 oz, even as the costs of milk, cups, beans, rent and wages have risen.
Sometimes we give out a sweet or a biscuit to brighten someone’s day. These are occasional gifts, not something included with every coffee.
We have also been criticised because a takeaway coffee did not come with a free biscuit or a tissue. Napkins are available for self-service in the café.
I understand that everyone has a budget, but we cannot lower our coffee prices and still keep the café going. We sell coffee, and the little extras we give when we can come from the heart. I ask that our team be treated with kindness.
We will be open as usual on Friday 25 September. Pop Pop Tea will be open as usual on Saturday, with our team looking after it. If you’d like to order catering for next week, please DM us — I will still reply.
