Maybe the best thing about loving coffee this much is getting to share the excitement of it with you 🤎

I’ve been doing this for more than twenty years now.

I’ve competed, trained, judged, travelled to origin, became a Q Grader, taught hundreds of baristas and made more coffees than I could ever begin to count.

And somehow, I’m still excited by it.

The smell when you open a fresh bag. The first drops of espresso falling into the cup. Finding a coffee that makes you stop for a second and think 〰️ wow.

Coffee can be incredibly complex. There’s a whole world behind that little cup 〰️ people, places, varieties, processing, roasting, extraction.

But I don’t think you need to know any of that to enjoy it.

That’s our job.

Your job is to come in, drink something delicious, have a chat, watch the river go by and maybe let us get you a little bit excited about coffee too.

After all these years, I still love it. I love making it. I love drinking it. I love how it can change you. Connect you. Most of my best friends have come through drinking coffee together.

And I love that I get to share that with you.

A little Kindfolk weekend, out and about in Denmark 💙

After a week of brewing coffees, baking cakes and seeing all your lovely faces, it’s our turn to wander.

A little time by the river, a little fresh air, and a reminder of why we love calling this beautiful town home.

Whether you live here or you’re visiting, I hope you get a little time to enjoy it too.

When I see good men, it melts my heart a little.

Men baby-wearing. Men staying up so their partners can sleep. Men holding hands with their partner as they walk. Men doing the night wakes, packing lunches, changing nappies. Men showing up 〰️ in the hard times as much as the good ones.

My own dad died when I was very young, and these days I find myself being both mum and dad to George.

But it hasn’t made me cynical about good men. If anything, maybe it’s made me notice them more.

The dads who nurture. The men who are gentle. The ones who love their partners well. Who understand that providing for a family is about so much more than money. Who stay present, carry their share and make the people they love feel safe.

I have so much respect for those men.

So this Father’s Day, a little prayer of thanks from me to you.

For showing up.
For loving well.
For being good men.

You matter more than you probably know.

Because good dads raise kind folk 🤎

A new little shelf has appeared at Kindfolk.

For now, it holds a few curious treasures. But one day I imagine it filled with things made by my own hands 〰️ ceramics, drawings, cards and small pieces of art.

That part will take time. The café came first, and she has required almost everything I have. But slowly, there is space opening again for the other things I’ve always wanted to make.

So I’m letting the shelf remain a little empty for now.

A place for the next dream to land.

Maybe you’re letting your dreams take hold and expand too. I love that for us 🤎

Ahhh, coffee. My love.

Before it ever reaches our hands, it has already lived a whole life.

A seed planted in rich soil. Rain. Sun. Altitude. Time.

A cherry picked when it’s ripe, often by hand 〰️ then sorted, processed, dried and rested. Passed through the hands of farmers, producers, millers, exporters and importers. Packed into sacks and sent across oceans, travelling thousands of kilometres from the place it grew.

Then the roaster takes over.

Heat transforms something green and grassy into something fragrant and extraordinary. Sugars caramelise. Acids shift. Flavours hidden inside the seed begin to reveal themselves.

And finally, it lands in the hands of a barista.

We grind it. Dose it. Tamp it. Watch the seconds. Steam the milk until it’s glossy and sweet. Pour it carefully into a cup.

All those hands.
All those miles.
All that knowledge, weather, agriculture, science and craft.

For this.

A tiny, beautiful elixir that somehow makes mornings better, conversations longer, strangers familiar and the world feel a little more alive.

Coffee, you really are something.

And after all these years, I’m still completely in love with you.

Somewhere along the way, I veered off from being the head coffee person and found myself in the kitchen.

At Pixel, Jules took on the coffee side of things and I started baking.

I’d spend hours scouring cookbooks and food blogs, looking for recipes that excited me. I baked, tweaked, experimented and learnt as I went, and before long our cakes had taken off and become some of our biggest sellers.

What started as a kitchen role became something I genuinely loved.

And it never really left me.

Even though coffee was the thing I was known for professionally, I kept baking. Kept collecting recipes. Kept being drawn to beautiful ingredients, interesting flavours and the simple pleasure of making something from scratch.

All the while, I’ve spent years pining for the time and space to make art again.

And lately I’ve realised that perhaps I’ve been doing it all along.

Because cake, for me, has become a medium for so many of the things I want to express 〰️ love, abundance and beauty.

I want a cake to feel generous. I want flowers and colour and texture. I want it to look handmade, because it is. And I want the ingredients underneath all of that beauty to be just as good.

At Kindfolk we use Bahen & Co chocolate, Western Star butter, pastured eggs from Greg and beautiful seasonal ingredients. Things I would choose for my own kitchen, because that’s essentially how we bake.

Every cake is made individually, from scratch, in our tiny kitchen. No production line. No two ever quite the same… but always with the same obsession behind it.

There is something I love about spending hours creating something beautiful, knowing its entire purpose is to be placed in the middle of a table, cut into pieces and shared.

Maybe that’s what I’ve been trying to get back to with art all this time.

Making something with my hands. Making it beautiful. And giving it to people.

So, we’re now taking a small number of orders for whole Kindfolk cakes.

Made one at a time, with very good ingredients and probably far too many flowers, in our little kitchen by the river x

Our açai bowls are loaded with fresh fruit, banana, berries, crunchy granola and all the good things 〰️ finished with edible flowers, because breakfast can be beautiful too.

Made fresh at Kindfolk, by the Denmark River, for slow mornings, sunny days and small hands that simply cannot wait.
