Shout out to London Purvis from The Baxter Inn and her incredible feature in Australian Bartender. For those who’ve had the pleasure of learning from London, either at the bar or in the sacred vault of the Whisky room, you can’t help but be inspired hearing her speak about the spirit with the fervour of both a scientist and an artist. Work and words like this are a reminder that whisky was never niche to women - women have always had a seat at the table.
“Pop culture and marketing have painted whisky as a cornerstone in masculinity. That it belongs to the likes of wealthy gentlemen in leather armchairs with cougars. What bothers me so much about the whole idea of whisky being made by men, for men, isn’t so much the exclusivity of it; it’s that is simply not true.”
