Malabar Indian Restaurant

Malabar Indian Restaurant Traditional South Indian Restaurant in Sydney, Australia.

Our Malabar, the restaurants, has been named after the coastal region of Kerala; the powerhouse of Indian spices. Often dubbed the ‘Pepper coast’, Malabar originally founded its wealth and power on growing and exporting spices indigenous to Kerala, flourishing under international Ocean trade. Spices were considered a symbol of wealth and affluence and pepper doubled as a more stable form of curren

cy than money during its phase of initial international fame. Trailing pepper, followed the discovery of cardamom, ginger, curry leaves and vanilla among many other spices. This is how the famous Spice Trail was created thousands of years ago bringing us the exotic spices of the sub-continent to every nation’s cuisine.
