Thirteen events in thirty-one days. This is August at Lamont’s.

Three winemakers are crossing the country and six more are coming up from the south, each to host their own table. A Master of Wine is leading us through benchmark Barolo and Barbaresco. Museum Henschke comes out of the family cellar for twelve guests, and JJ presents his two great Australian showcases, Grenache and Pinot Noir.

The 2025 Pannell Family Chardonnay, 95 Points.

In 1969 Bill and Sandra Pannell planted Moss Wood and helped set Margaret River on its course. In 1993 they went searching again... south to Pemberton - and founded Picardy.

The 2025 Pannell Family Chardonnay is the first white to carry the family label, alongside their Pinot. Ray Jordan has given the debut release 95 points.

For Adam.

Adam Sharpe. An integral part of our industry, a dear friend, and a single dad of two young boys, has been dealt an incredibly tough hand. Adam has been diagnosed with a severe, aggressive and rare stomach cancer. At his age, Adam was not expecting to need work insurance cover and now has felt the need to resign as he battles his way through this incredibly tough, both mentally and physically, life changing period of intense cancer treatments and immunotherapy.

On Saturday 25 July, Kate, Jack and I are opening Lamont’s Cottesloe for a long lunch in his honour. Beautiful food, serious wine, and a charity auction that reaches well beyond the cellar.

Rare vertical collections from Moss Wood and Leeuwin Estate. A Pro Hart original. A perfectly stored 2010 – one of the great vintages – bottle of Grange. An on-court experience with the Perth Wildcats. Golf, getaways, and dinners at some of WA’s finest tables. And the wine, poured generously from the sponsoring wineries all afternoon.

Adam has spent a lifetime in and around Western Australian wine, a devoted supporter and contributor to our industry who has given his time generously to local names such as Cullen, Moss Wood, Pierro, Amelia Park and Alkoomi – and in the eastern states, labels such as the great Jeff Grosset.

Sangiovese lovers, this is one for the memory bank.

On Monday 15 June, we’re opening 13 of Tuscany’s modern greats, including five rare museum releases, for an intimate private dinner hosted by Yasmeen Jansen MW.

This is not a broad “tour of Italy” tasting. This is Sangiovese at its most serious, most age-worthy, and most sought-after, with producers including Biondi-Santi, Casanova di Neri, Fèlsina, Il Marroneto, Il Poggione, Poggio di Sotto, San Giusto a Rentennano, Antinori and Tenuta San Guido.

Expect Brunello, Chianti Classico, Super Tuscan icons and museum bottles, poured across four courses in the Lamont’s dining room.

The line-up includes the 2021 San Giusto a Rentennano Percarlo, awarded 99 points by Monica Larner, and the 2019 Casanova di Neri Cerretalto, described by Vinous as “spellbinding”.

The 2022 Hill of Grace - how good is it? The finest ever? Yep.

Even Hill of Grace is evolving - both in the vineyards and with winemaking knowhow in the winery. This is my highest pointed Australian red ever, at 19.6 points.

I would add that I have about 300,000 tasting notes and that, from these, I have placed the 2015, the 2018, and the 2021 Hill of Grace vintages amongst my finest 8-12 Australian wines of all time - on 19.5 Points …

I believe that this 2022, for the reasons mentioned above, is both finer and longer - and that it is, and will be superior, to those three.
