Over the last few weeks I've been spending a little more time in this room, just sitting in it and thinking about how it feels.

I've been adding little touches here and there. Nothing dramatic. Just small changes.

A warm old hutch that feels like something you'd find in Grandma's kitchen.

A long banquette that makes the room feel a little softer and more inviting.

Fresh paint.

Warm lighting.

And plenty more ideas still taking shape.

One of the things I think about often is how to make Whipbird feel less like a restaurant and more like a home away from home.

A place where you can settle in for another drink, stay for dessert, linger over conversation, and feel completely comfortable.

There are still plenty of little projects I have planned. Behind the banquette I'm thinking about a raw travertine shelf, or maybe timber, with warm lamps, a few extra cushions to make the seating even more comfortable, and some thoughtful touches that make people want to stay just a little longer. We'll see where that idea ends up.

The truth is, every week we're making a few small improvements.

Nothing overnight.

Just slowly creating the sort of space we would love to spend time in ourselves.

So next time you're in, have a look around.

You might notice something new.

And if you're looking for somewhere to escape the cold, catch up with friends, celebrate something special, or simply settle in for a warm meal and dessert, we'd love to see you.

We're getting ready for a cosy South Burnett winter, and we'd love to share it with you. ❤️

We're still thinking about the weekend.

Friends gathered around tables, kids running across the lawn, conversations that lingered a little longer than planned, and laughter drifting through the old church.

The cooler evenings have made the fire feel especially inviting lately, while the days still warm up beautifully under the winter sun. It's a lovely time of year here—slow mornings, long lunches, and golden afternoons spent outdoors.

We're grateful for everyone who chooses to spend part of their weekend with us.

The apple crumble will be on again tonight.

Family dropped off a box of apples this week and as soon as they arrived, we knew exactly what we wanted to do with them.

This dessert isn't just a dessert. It's a reflection of the season and what landed in our kitchen this week.

There's something about warm apple crumble, vanilla ice cream and cooler evenings that just feels right.

I've been looking through tonight's bookings this morning and it's always nice seeing familiar names come through. Regulars returning, birthdays being celebrated, friends catching up over dinner.

We're really grateful for every booking.

If you'd like to join us tonight, there are still a few tables available. The booking link will show you exactly what's left.

Tonight at Whipbird

Tonight was just one of those beautiful autumn evenings.

The lamps were glowing inside the church, the fires were lit outside, cocktails were being poured behind the bar, and guests were finishing dinner with warm apple crumble coming straight from the oven.

There was that little bit of crispness in the air — just enough to make sitting by the fire with something warm feel perfect.

Our Violet Cosmopolitan was a hit around the tables tonight, and seeing people slowing down, catching up and enjoying the evening together is always one of our favourite parts of weekends here.

Thank you to everyone who joined us tonight ❤️

We'll have the apple crumble on again Saturday night while it lasts.

There’s something really special about the weekend.

Life slows down a little. It becomes the perfect excuse to sit around a table with friends, catch up, talk about life, laugh a little too loudly, and spend time with the people you love most. Some of the best moments seem to happen that way — with good company and a drink in hand.

This weekend behind the bar, we’ve got something a little special.

Violet Cosmopolitan

Vodka, fresh lemon, house-made violet syrup made from violets picked from Grandma’s country garden, cranberry juice, shaken with ice and finished with a dried citrus garnish.

If there’s someone you’ve been meaning to catch up with, send this to them. Maybe this weekend is the weekend.

We’d love to have you at Whipbird.

This Friday and Saturday night we'll be lighting the fires again.

This week we were given heaps of beautiful apples from family, and there were enough to fill the kitchen benches, so we decided to do what is probably the best thing you can do with apples...

Bake them.

The kitchen will be pulling warm apple crumble straight from the oven, served with vanilla ice cream while the evenings here in the South Burnett start to cool down a little.

Dinner slowly winding down, a glass of wine in hand, sitting by the fire and staying a little longer than you meant to.

We'd love to see you this weekend.https://whipbirdvenue.com.au/

You never really realise how much someone does until they're not there.

This last week has been a really hard one for our family. Mum recently went in for major heart surgery and, as many of you know, she's always been a huge part of Whipbird.

She's the reason I love hospitality in the first place.

She's the kind of person who always has something fresh baked when you walk through the door. The kind of person who grows things just because she loves sharing them with people. So many of the flavours and little details around here have come from her over the years.

Every Friday she'd come out with buckets full of produce and herbs picked fresh from her garden — elderflower, butterfly pea, roses, herbs for the kitchen, herbs for cocktails — all the little things that quietly became part of Whipbird.

This week we've been out picking herbs ourselves.

And even though we didn't plant them, grow them, care for them, or spend months waiting for them to be ready, we suddenly realised just how much work there is in even the smallest part of what she does.

It's funny how the things people do every week can slowly become invisible — not because they aren't important, but because they become part of the rhythm of life.

Thankfully she's now starting her recovery, and we just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has reached out and sent well wishes. We appreciate it more than you know.

When I really stop and think about it, Whipbird is probably a reflection of her in more ways than I even realised.

The country garden, the flowers, the herbs, the recipes shared around a table, the feeling of welcoming people in and feeding them well — so much of what this place is came from what she gave me first.

And maybe that's why this place feels the way it does.

If you'd like to leave any messages for Mum while she recovers, we'd love to read them with her. 💕

Sometimes it's not really about lunch.

It's the country drive, conversations stretching out across tables, and deciding you're not in a hurry to leave just yet.

Today's herb-crusted heritage pasture pork heading out to the tables before another Sunday slowly winds down.

See you next weekend.

We’ve been quietly working on a few little changes behind the scenes at Whipbird lately.

If you visit over the next few weeks, you might notice the space slowly evolving for winter — new layouts, softer lighting, fresh tables, seasonal touches, and a few beautiful additions still arriving.

One of the things we’re most excited about is a long custom banquette in a deep eucalyptus green velvet, designed to make the space feel warmer, softer, and even more inviting through the cooler months.

Around here, things tend to happen slowly and by hand. It’s usually us, family, or friends moving furniture late at night, painting walls between services, carrying plants in from the farm, or testing little ideas as we go.

We actually love that part of it.

This old building is always evolving with the seasons, and we’re really enjoying giving it a little extra love before winter settles in.

Keep your eyes open next time you visit — you might spot something new.
