At Smimac Foodservice, we're incredibly proud to celebrate a very special milestone as our Lead Storeman, Shaun Douglass "Squirrel", marks an outstanding 20 years of service.
Shaun joined the Smimac team on 24 August 2006, and over the past two decades he has become an integral part of our business and our team.
Twenty years is an incredible achievement, and if you've ever had the pleasure of working alongside Squirrel, you'll know exactly why he's become such an important part of the Smimac family.
To put it simply, every workplace needs a Squirrel.
For the past two decades, he's been the steady hand behind the scenes, making sure our warehouse runs like clockwork. From chasing suppliers, ensuring stock arrives on time, maintaining quality control and keeping everything organised, Squirrel takes immense pride in doing the job right. His dedication, reliability and work ethic are second to none, and the business simply wouldn't be the same without him.
And then there's his forklift driving.
Most people operate a forklift. Squirrel makes it look like an art form. Watching him weave effortlessly through the warehouse is nothing short of majestic. It's a skill that's been perfected over 20 years and one that's admired by everyone who works alongside him.
If you've ever wandered through the warehouse, chances are you've also heard Squirrel before you've seen him. Whether he's happily singing a tune from inside the freezer or letting the front office know exactly what he thinks about 19 pallets arriving all at once, he certainly keeps everyone entertained. His sense of humour and honesty are just as much a part of Smimac as the pallets themselves, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
Outside of work, Squirrel enjoys spending quality time with his family and getting out on his bike whenever he can. It's no surprise that someone who puts so much energy into work also enjoys keeping active in his spare time.
Over the past 20 years, Squirrel has earned the respect of his teammates through his loyalty, knowledge and willingness to help wherever needed. He's the kind of person who quietly gets on with the job, supports those around him and genuinely cares about the success of the business. His commitment has helped shape Smimac into the company it is today.
Squirrel, thank you for your incredible dedication, loyalty and hard work over the past two decades. You've set the standard for what it means to be a great teammate, and we're grateful for everything you do.
Congratulations on reaching this remarkable milestone. Here's to 20 fantastic years and hopefully many more songs from the freezer, a few less deliveries of 19 pallets at once, and plenty more majestic Forklift driving.
