The British were the first to commercialize coffee in Sri Lanka creating the country’s first largely successful export crop. Coffee was a major econo
mic crop in Sri Lanka from 1830 to 1850 and was creating a more modernized economy including available capital and the opening of the Ceylon Bank in 1841 which provided financing to expand coffee plantations. By 1867 more than 160,000 acres of coffee were being cultivated in Sri Lanka with exports of more than 67 million pounds. The Sri Lanka Coffee beans are considered very high in quality due to the rich soil and high moisture environment where it grows. It was not until nearly a century after the arrival of the Dutch that one of their Governors attempted to cultivate it as a commercial speculation. Long before tea become emblematic of Sri Lanka, the country was known as one of the world's biggest coffee producers, courtesy of the Dutch, who first planted coffee trees across the island, with quality beans rivaling those from Java. The Process
During the months of June- July the flowers of Arabica Coffee bean trees started to emerge and by November- December, the trees will be covered with bright red ripped beans which are known as coffee Cherries. Then the coffee beans are washed, and process the seeds under the ‘Dry processing’ method by using natural sunlight. These process coffee beans are then sorted, graded and roasted until the second crack by our Master Roasters to capture and preserve the essence of Ceylon. Finally it will be blended for the perfect consistency and delivered to customers all over the world. How it is made?
