Squire’s Cafe - Cann River

It is with a broken heart that we make this post. 💔
Around 3:45am yesterday morning, a fire started inside of Squire’s Cafe - Cann River, and within a few minutes had taken hold and engulfed the entire building.
A passing truck driver first saw the blaze and called 000.
CFA crews and police arrived shortly after and were able to save adjoining properties and evacuate nearby residents.
Unfortunately the entire Cafe building and small attached shop were destroyed, and all stock and equipment has been lost.
The police are satisfied that the fire is not suspicious; it just seems to be some incredibly horrible luck.
We are grateful no one was hurt. 🙏

A huge thank you to all the CFA, police, ambulance, bush nursing, shire and DEECA staff that helped contain the blaze and secure the wider scene.

Thank you to the amazing Cann River community for your support. The hundreds of messages and offers of help in dozens of ways has been overwhelming and so greatly appreciated. We love you and love that we are part of this strong, resilient, and caring community.

Squire’s has worked very hard over the past 2 years to become a community gathering place, a hub for those to come together, enjoy some great coffee and food and socialise.
Jayme, the sensational staff, and the wider Cann Valley community, are in a state of mourning over this profound loss. Jayme has been in undated with messages and calls and will attempt to get back to people when he can, but please respect that he needs some time to process the next steps.

We do not yet know what the future holds for Squire’s Cafe.
The flow-on effects to the community in terms of employment and services available for the town will be felt hard, however we know that everyone will stick together and help each other out where possible.

In the meantime, the Squire’s staff have led the way in reopening Snaffle across the road in a basic capacity. Serving coffee, toasted sandwiches, & wraps.

Elgas gas bottle supply is still available through the staff at Snaffle - 14a Princes Highway, Cann River.

Again, thank you all for your continued support and we will provide an update when the road ahead becomes clearer.

Squire’s is hosting a social game of Euchre on Monday night at 7pm. Free to play and everyone is welcome. If you don’t know how to play, come in early and we’ll teach you; it’s easy!

We’ll have the fire going, and remember it’s BYO alcohol.
