Last week with excitement we welcomed writer Nigel Featherstone back to The Street for a creative development of the third -and final - of his piano plays. This is where Nigel takes dramatic and comedic text dialogue and mixes it up with spoken poetry and live piano-based music to push theatrical form in unexpected, dramatic and moving ways. And we discovered, once again, how much we love a work for one actor holding multitudes.
In this accumulation of sound
waves in space, I have lost
my existence but found my self
A magic team in the room with Dylan Van Den Berg (dramaturg), Jarrad West (actor), Caroline Stacey (artistic director), and Sally Whitwell (composer). It's a work set in a Sydney summer that dives into creative ambition, the lure of a headland, and the violence and sensuality that underpins Australian society. Nigel worked like a demon on what might be his most intriguing work yet.
