Why does ice cream give you brain freeze?

We’ve all been there. One enthusiastic mouthful of ice cream and suddenly you’re regretting every decision you’ve ever made! Brain freeze happens when something very cold hits the roof of your mouth, causing blood vessels in the area to rapidly change and triggering nearby pain nerves.

The good news is that it usually disappears pretty quickly. The other good news is that you can continue eating the ice cream! Thank goodness!
