The Role: Cafe Manager
We are looking for a hands-on and dynamic Cafe Manager to oversee all operational aspects of the cafe. This is a critical leadership role that requires a blend of excellent business acumen, strong people skills, and a genuine love for the fast-paced cafe environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management:
Oversee daily cafe operations, ensuring exceptional standards of quality, service, and cleanliness are consistently met.
Manage inventory, ordering, and stock control to minimize waste and maintain optimal supply levels.
Handle cash management, daily reconciliation, and reporting.
Team Leadership & Development:
Recruit, train, mentor, and motivate a small, high-performing team (Baristas, FOH/BOH staff).
Schedule staff efficiently to meet business demands while managing labor costs.
Foster a positive, collaborative, and professional work environment.
Customer Experience:
Be the face of the cafe, actively engaging with customers to build rapport and handle any service inquiries or issues.
Ensure every guest receives a memorable and genuinely warm hospitality experience.
Quality Control:
Maintain an expert-level understanding of coffee preparation and food service standards.
Work closely with the kitchen team to ensure seamless service flow and high-quality product delivery.
Compliance:
Ensure adherence to all health, safety, and licensing regulations.
Essential Skills and Experience
Experience is Essential: A minimum of 2-3 years of proven management experience in a busy cafe, restaurant, or similar hospitality environment is non-negotiable.
A Passion for People & Hospitality: You must possess an undeniable enthusiasm for the hospitality industry, coupled with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
Leadership Capability: A track record of successfully leading, motivating, and managing a small team.
Financial Literacy: Competence in basic P&L management, labor cost control, and inventory management.
Problem-Solver: The ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations.
Local Knowledge: Familiarity with the Camberwell/Boroondara community is a plus.
