In Japanese, “tare” means sauce, while “katsu” refers to meat that has been Panko coated and deep-fried. 🍗

There are many different styles of katsu in Japan, such as Sauce Katsu and Miso Katsu. ☝️

Tare Katsu is a local specialty from Niigata Prefecture, Japan 🇯🇵
It’s made by dipping freshly fried katsu into a sweet and savoury soy-based sauce, then placing it on top of a bowl of rice. 🤤

On August 15th, 2026, TOKIWA had the pleasure of joining the Japanese BON DANCE FESTIVAL 2026 as a yakitori food stall! 🙌✨

There was so much preparation involved in the months leading up to the festival, and we truly couldn’t have made it through the day without the incredible support and teamwork of our staff. 😭

To all of our amazing team members who work with us every day to make TOKIWA a better place ☺️
To all of our wonderful friends who came out to help us at the festival 💛
And most of all, to every single customer who visited our stall and enjoyed our yakitori on the day — thank you from the bottom of our hearts! 😌🙏

Taking everything we learned, including the things we can improve on, we’re already looking forward to coming back even stronger for the 2027 Bon Dance Festival! ✊‼️

📣 BIG NEWS 📣

TOKIWA will be joining the Japanese Bon Dance Festival 2026, hosted by japanesesocietyofcairns , this Saturday, 15th August‼️🎉

📅 15th August
📍 Fogarty Park, Cairns City
🕒 12:00–20:30

TOKIWA will be serving up Yakitori (Japanese grilled chicken) at our very own festival stall! 🐔🔥

Each skewer is carefully prepared and hand-threaded by our staff, then grilled and coated with our homemade TOKIWA YAKITORI SAUCE for that delicious, authentic flavour 🤤

We’ll have a few different flavours to choose from, including our original Yakitori sauce, Spring onion & mayo(Negimayo), and Spicy shichimi mayo 🙌

And for a limited time, we’ll also have our juicy chicken meatball skewers (Tsukune) available in limited quantities! 🫡🔥

This will be TOKIWA’s very first big festival appearance! 🎉

We’re really excited for this opportunity to introduce TOKIWA to even more people and let everyone experience our food and flavours ✊❗️

Our whole team will be giving it our all while, of course, having lots of fun along the way! 😊
