When Heike first interviewed with me over two years ago, she asked me a question I have never forgotten:
“What is your vision for Mog’s?”
My answer was simple:
Ever evolving.
And that has been true from the very beginning.
Mog’s has ever-evolved since the day we opened. Two locations. With two fit-outs in under a year. Breakfasts, lunches, dinner service, theme nights, special events, catering, music, karaoke, frozen vodkaritas, long days, big ideas, beautiful moments, lessons, and so many chapters we will never forget.
And with all of those amazing experiences, plus the data and reporting behind the scenes, one thing has become very clear:
Mog’s really just wants to be one of your reasons to get out of bed in the morning.
She loves waking you up each day.
Coffee. Breakfast. A brunch muffin. A toastie. Cake. A chat. A toilet stop. A little country-town warmth. Then off you go — back on the road, back to work, back to exploring, back to being whoever you are and doing whatever you do best.
So for right now, Mog’s is leaning into mornings.
And while any change can feel big at first, this one has also gifted our family something we have been needing for a long time: space.
More time with our children. More time to breathe. More time to be together. More time to remember why we moved back to the country in the first place. More time to find the other sides of ourselves again. More time for the community projects, creative ideas, family moments, and life outside the cafe that have been waiting quietly in the background.
Because as much as we love seeing you each day at Mog’s, there is more to us too.
Just like there is far more to you than Mog’s.
And with every bold move, there is always a ripple effect.
For us, one of those ripples is that our beautiful Heike has made the decision to finish up at Mog’s.
With the change in hours, Heike needs more stability and more hours than we can offer in this next chapter. She has herself, her home, and her animals to care for — and we love and respect her enough to support her in choosing what is right for her.
Heike has been part of so much of the Mog’s story.
She brought her light into this place. She brought knowledge, steadiness, humour, care, life experience, and so much more than “just a job”. She has given so much of herself to Mog’s, both inside the cafe and beyond it.
And somewhere along the way, she became family.
Our connection has always reached well beyond Mog’s, and it will continue to reach well beyond Mog’s. Because some people don’t just work beside you — they become woven into your life.
In a way, it feels like we have graduated her.
Like she came in, shared what she was here to share, helped shape this chapter, and now the Mary Poppins wind has picked her up and carried her toward wherever she is meant to take her light next.
For now, we just want to say thank you, Heike.
Thank you for everything you have brought to Mog’s, to our team, to our customers, and to this little ever-evolving cafe.
You will always be part of our story x.
