Menindee, Pooncarie & Mungo National Park

Today we farewell the Darling River and journey south through the historic outback town of Menindee, Australia’s oldest European settlement on the Darling River. We’ll enjoy time to explore the area before stopping for a relaxed lunch.

From Menindee, our adventure continues through Pooncarie, following the iconic Darling River as the landscape transforms into the ancient landscapes of Mungo National Park, part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Willandra Lakes Region.

We’ll settle into our accommodation for the next two nights, providing the perfect base to discover one of Australia’s most significant cultural and geological landscapes. Over the coming days we’ll explore the remarkable Walls of China, uncover stories of the world’s oldest known ritual burials, and experience the rich Aboriginal heritage, unique wildlife and breathtaking outback scenery that make Mungo such a special place. More to come on that part of our journey next!
