🦪 Growing oysters in Queensland? Challenge accepted!

Blacklip rock oysters are Queensland’s own native oyster – tough enough to handle the heat, resistant to QX disease, and now popping up in local seafood stores. Talk about a shuck-cessful milestone! 🌊✨

For years, our researchers at the Bribie Island Research Centre have been developing hatchery techniques to make farming Blacklip oysters possible at a commercial scale.

Traditionally, farmers have relied on the Sydney rock oyster, which can only be grown along the southern-most 15% of the Queensland coastline. But with Blacklips, the world (well, coastline) is our oyster. 🐚

Recently, we spotted them on sale at Arabon Seafoods in Bowen and they tasted every bit as spectacular as promised.
