🏇 BOWEN CUP CREW — SORT YOUR RACE DAY FEAST NOW! 🥂

There’s a little change to race day this year… outside food won’t be permitted into the Bowen Turf Club for Bowen Cup Day.

But don’t panic — you can still turn up with your crew, find your spot and settle in with a bloody beautiful spread. 😏

Meraki Whitsundays is taking PRE-ORDERS for race day food, ready and waiting for you to collect INSIDE the racecourse from 12pm.

And if you’re doing Cup Day properly, our GRAZING BOXES are where it’s at. 🙌

Think meats, cheeses, crackers, dips, fresh fruit and all the good little grazing bits — made for parking yourself trackside with your mates and picking at all afternoon.

We’ve also got plenty of other options available, including:
• Sandwiches & wraps
• House-made sausage rolls
• Spinach rolls
• Cob loaves

WE’RE HIRING — CASUAL COOK

We’re looking for a confident, reliable cook to join the Meraki Whitsundays team.

This is a casual position working as part of our kitchen team, with a rotating roster designed to give everyone a better work/life balance — because hospitality shouldn’t mean giving up every weekend and every event.

We’re looking for someone who:
• Has kitchen/cooking experience
• Can work confidently in a fast-paced environment
• Is reliable, organised and works well as part of a team
• Takes pride in the food they send out
• Is happy to jump in and help wherever needed

Our kitchen covers everything from busy café service and our house-made cabinet food to catering, functions and events — so there’s plenty of variety.

Hours will include a mix of weekdays and weekends on a rotating roster.

If you’re looking for a kitchen role with a supportive team, plenty of variety and a roster that actually considers balance, we’d love to hear from you.

What a lovely night celebrating women in business in Bowen.

A huge thank you to the Bowen Chamber of Commerce and everyone who attended for giving Lily, Chloe and me the opportunity to share our stories and celebrate our recognition in the Queensland Day Awards.

In 2013, sitting behind the wheel of a grader with probably far too much time to think, I had an idea.

Thirteen years later, Meraki has grown, changed, moved, adapted, pivoted (more times than I can count), survived some pretty hard hits — and somehow, I’m still here.

One of the things I spoke about last night was that I’m not entirely comfortable with the word success. Small business isn’t a straight line upwards, and sometimes the wins and the struggles exist at exactly the same time.

But maybe success isn’t reaching some magical point where you’ve finally “made it.”

Maybe it’s continuing to change when something isn’t working. Having another idea when the last one fails. Building relationships with other businesses instead of seeing everyone as competition.

And most importantly, looking after your community so that, hopefully, your community looks after you too.

Standing alongside Lily from Fiorella Florals and Chloe from Bird’s Fish Bar — three women, three very different Bowen businesses, all recognised at a Queensland level — was pretty bloody special.

Thirteen years ago I thought, “I could do that.”

Thirteen years later, I’m still doing it.

Maybe it’s resilience. Maybe it’s passion. Maybe it’s stupidity.

At this point, I’m not willing to rule any of them out. 😂

💼 A great night celebrating women in business at the Bowen Chamber of Commerce Inc. September event.

It was fantastic to hear from Lily, Chloe and Amanda, who each shared their own stories of success, the challenges they’ve overcome and the day-to-day reality of running a small business.

There was plenty of honesty and emotion in their stories, and they’ve each got a lot to be proud of. It was a great reminder that behind every business is a person taking risks, solving problems and backing themselves to keep moving forward.

It was also good to hear from Chamber President Alex about the work happening behind the scenes to grow the Chamber, strengthen connections across the Bowen and wider Whitsunday business community, and support local members.

A really positive night for Bowen business. 👏
