Here are the next dates you can walk across the ocean in Queensland! 🌊

If you've ever wanted to experience one of Australia's most unique natural events, the Bowen Lighthouse Walk is your chance.

During the lowest tides of the year, you can walk across the exposed sandbar from Dalrymple Point Beach to North Head Island, home to Bowen's historic lighthouse.

Along the way you'll discover colourful starfish, sea turtles, fascinating marine life, crystal-clear water and incredible 360° views of the Whitsundays.

You can actually walk across the ocean in Queensland...

Every year the tide reveals a natural sandbar leading to North Head Island.

Along the way you'll find crystal-clear water, colourful starfish, sea turtles, coral, and some of the most incredible views in North Queensland.

🛟 NEXT LOW TIDE TIMES

It's important to remember that you need to start the walk to the Bowen Lighthouse Island an HOUR before the low tide.

It's a 1km walk through wet sand and will take approximately 30 minutes one way.

Allow plenty of time to return to the mainland as the tide returns very quickly.

Weather conditions also affect how long the walk takes.

Be safe and be mindful of the wildlife.

Day 2 of the Bowen Lighthouse Walk was one to remember! 🐢🌊

Another incredible day saw hundreds of people make the journey across the sandbar to North Head Island.

With crystal-clear water,
amazing marine life and perfect winter weather putting on a spectacular show.

The highlight of the day was an unexpected sea turtle rescue.

Walkers noticed a turtle in distress.

After watching it for quite some time it was obvious that it was having problems swimming and couldn't dive.

Calls were made to wildlife carers and the sea turtle was taken to receive treatment.

It's been nicknamed Sindy after the lady who made the initial long walk into deep water to check on it.

Great reminder to everyone
just how special
- and important -
our local marine environment and people working together are!

Along the way
to North Head Island,
walkers can discover colourful starfish,
sea urchins, oysters, coral, crabs.

North Head Island and the area around it are beautiful.

There are rock pools covered in coral 🪸 and countless other fascinating creatures in the shallow waters.

The walk up the hill to the lighthouse is fun but there's so much more to explore.

From families making memories to photographers capturing the stunning scenery, there was something exciting around every corner of North Head Island.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped with the turtle rescue, respected the wildlife and helped make another fantastic day on the Bowen Lighthouse Walk.

Tides will be low again later today.

Look at this sea urchin!

These spiny echinoderms are common on the sand flats around Bowen.

Their sharp, brittle spines can cause painful injuries, so wear sturdy shoes and avoid touching them.
