This one hit me right in the feels.
From Ryan
I don’t normally write the posts around here, Rach is definitely the social media department, but I wanted to say something about this one personally.
This is exactly what I strive for every single day.
Across our two stores, we employ 32 people. And those 32 people are the backbone of our businesses.
Some are young and working their very first job.
Some have years of experience behind them.
Some are confident, some are still finding their feet, and every single one of them is human.
I started working in hospitality when I was 13. I’m now 38. That’s 25 years in this industry, and I STILL learn something new every single day.
That’s the great thing about life you never stop learning.
And that is exactly the environment I want for our team.
I will teach them.
I will correct them.
I will push them to improve.
I will hold them accountable when something goes wrong (behind closed doors)
But I will also ALWAYS back them.
If we make a mistake, tell us.
If your order has taken longer than expected, talk to us.
If something isn't right, give us the opportunity to fix it.
But what I will never tolerate is our staff being spoken down to, abused, intimidated or treated with aggression.
Just last night, during peak Friday dinner service, a customer waited approximately 12 minutes for a kids meal. He came to the counter unhappy about the wait and proceeded to throw his ticket at the counter.
That's not okay.
You can agree or disagree with how I run my businesses, but this has never been about getting as much money through the till as humanly possible at the expense of our workplace culture.
I would rather lose 100 customers than have my staff come to work feeling like they don't deserve basic respect.
Because particularly for our younger staff, this might be their first experience of employment. The way they're treated now can shape their confidence and their attitude towards work for years to come.
So Rebecca, thank you.
You probably didn't realise how much your words would mean when you wrote them, but this review genuinely made my day.
The fact that you noticed not just the food, but how our team is treated behind that counter means more to me than you know.
And to our crew, keep learning, keep improving, keep backing each other and keep being good humans.
I've got your backs.
Ryan ❤️
